Rock set for road match at Bloomsburg

The Slippery Rock field hockey team will hit the road to face Bloomsburg 12 p.m. Saturday for a PSAC matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will hit the road for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup against Bloomsburg 12 p.m. Saturday at Steph Pettit Stadium.

LAST MEETING
The Rock fell to Bloomsburg, 3-2, on Oct. 26, 2016. Slippery Rock held a 2-0 lead with just eight minutes to play, but Bloomsburg rallied back with three goals in the final minutes to earn the comeback victory. Kailee Krupski assisted on a pair of goals scored by Hannah Downing and Megan McKay.

Bloomsburg holds the all-time series edge over The Rock, 42-2.  Slippery Rock's two wins have come in its last six meetings against the Huskies dating back to 2013. Bloomsburg currently owns a three game win streak against Slippery Rock.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• LAST TIME OUT – The Rock defeated Seton Hill, 3-0, on Oct. 11. Slippery Rock received two goals from Kayla Ulrich and one score from Downing. Brittany Morgan and Hannah Simone also added one assist each. For the game, Slippery Rock led Seton Hill in shots (12-3) and shots on goal (6-2).

• WINNING WAYS – Slippery Rock's nine wins on the year is its highest total since the 2014 season, when the team finished 9-10. With just one more win, The Rock will clinch an above .500 record for the first time since 1998, when the team finished 8-6.
 
• SLIPPERY ROCK SCORER'S – The Rock has received goals from 11 players so far this season. Ulrich leads the team with 11 scores, followed by Morgan and Krupski with four apiece. Downing and McKay have two goals each, followed by Courtney Page, Liz Wolfe, Alyssa Castle, Allison Martin, Sam Geroski and Allison Grant all with one apiece.
 
• A HELPING HAND – Nine players have also recorded assists for SRU. Morgan and Kayla Mack lead the team with three helpers each. Ulrich, Page, Wolfe and Simone each have two, followed by McKay, Castle and Brenna McGovern-Lind with one assist apiece.
 
• SWITCHABLE STOPPERS – For a majority of Slippery Rock's 14 games this season, SRU has implemented a system of starting Nicole Bream and then subbing in Maddie Murphy for the second half. In 12 starts, Bream is 4-4 with 36 saves, a 1.66 goals against average and a .766 save percentage. In 14 games played (two starts), Murphy is 5-1 with 30 saves, a 1.49 goals against average and a .732 save percentage.
 
• FRESHMEN TO FEAR – The Rock has had four players crack the top 10 of various SRU freshman record book categories. Ulrich ranks first in shots (54), shots on goal (43), points (24), goals (11) and is tied for fifth in assists (two). Morgan is tied for third in assists (three), ranks fourth in points (11) and is tied for fourth in goals (four). Page is tied for fifth in assists (two). Murphy currently ranks fourth in goalie minutes (515:28) and saves (30). 
 
• AMONG THE PSAC'S BEST – Ulrich is ranked among the best in virtually every major statistical category in the PSAC. She ranks fourth in points, second in goals scored and fourth in shots.  
 
• DEFENSIVE STOPPERS: Mack and Wolfe are tied for the team lead in defensive saves this season with three apiece. For their careers, Mack ranks third in program history in defensive saves with 16 while Wolfe ranks fifth with five. As a team, SRU ranks sixth in the nation in total defensive saves.

• Bloomsburg enters the game having won a PSAC road matchup against Mansfield, 1-0, on Oct. 11.
 
• The Huskies have received goals from 11 players so far this season. M. Mahan leads the team with eight, followed by Sauder with six. Brooke Zeiders and Geneka Mahan have both recorded five scores, followed by Willow Perkins with three. Krebs and Tesa Hoffman have added two goals each, followed by Ali McKay, Sally DeLuca, Cheyenne Ott and Emily Alker with one apiece.
 
• Bloomsburg has also received assists from 12 players. M. Mahan and McKay lead the team with four, followed by Zeiders and Tali Wehner with three assists each. Sauder and DeLuca have two apiece, followed by G. Mahan, Perkins, Krebs, Hoffman, Ott and Rachel Strockbine with one helper each.
 
• Two goalkeepers have seen time at net for the Huskies. In 10 starts, Dana Sheply is 5-5 with 43 saves, a 1.58 goals against average and a .729 save percentage. In five games played (three starts), Hannah Barnard is 2-1 with 22 saves, a 1.35 goals against average and a .815 save percentage.
