Box Score (HTML) SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team opened the 2015 season with a 3-2 loss to Bellarmine University on Sunday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The visiting Knights (2-0) entered the contest on a high note after securing a 3-2 overtime victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday night.
Megan McKay led The Rock (0-1) in the loss with one goal and one assist.
Kailee Krupski also scored one goal for SRU.
Kelsey O'Bryan had two goals for the Knights, while Kathryn Schneidtmiller added one goal.
Krupski took a pass from McKay in the 27th minute to put SRU on the scoreboard first.
O'Bryan scored her first goal for the Knights in the 35th minute to tie it up 1-1 at halftime.
Coming back from the break, O'Bryan struck again in the 45th minute to give the visitors a one-goal edge.
Bellarmine scored again less than two minutes later when Schneidtmiller scored her second goal of the season on a pass from Dana Hemingway.
SRU did not go away quietly though, as McKay scored in the 62nd minute on a pass from
Renee Rosenblum to give the contest a final score to 3-2.
Carlee DuMars registered seven saves in goal for Slippery Rock.
Kayla Mack was also credited with a defensive save for SRU.
Alexandra Moro earned her second win in goal in the past two days for the Knights. She made one save for the visitors.
Bellarmine posted an advantage of 11-4 in total shots, while The Rock held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners.
SRU hosts American International College on Monday at 12 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
