Morgante to work CONCACAF Gold Cup final

SRU assistant track and field coach C.J. Morgante, who is also a certified professional soccer referee, has been assigned to serve as an assistant referee for Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup final between Mexico and Jamaica.

16296PHILADELPHIA – Slippery Rock University assistant track and field coach C.J. Morgante has been selected to serve as an assistant referee in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final that will take place Sunday between Mexico and Jamaica at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
 
Morgante, who serves as a volunteer assistant coach and works with the pole vaulters on the SRU track and field team, is a certified CONCACAF and FIFA soccer official.
 
Sunday's Gold Cup final will be the fifth game he has worked in the tournament after also serving as an assistant referee in three group play games and in the quarterfinal round for the Mexico vs. Costa Rica game.
 
Morgante, the only official from the United States that will work Sunday's final, started the Gold Cup in Los Angeles and has served as a referee during the tournament at games in Los Angeles, Houston, Toronto and New York.
 
Morgante is no stranger to being on the biggest stages of the sport. He has been the assistant referee in double figure Major League Soccer games each year since 2005 and has served as a referee in five MLS games so far this season.
 
Sunday's final between Mexico and Jamaica is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Fox Sports 1 and Univision.
