SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team saw its undefeated record and three game win-streak snapped as they fell to Limestone College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The visiting Saints entered the contest undefeated after cruising to wins over Newberry College and No. 6 Bloomsburg last week. Limestone's dynamic offense was crippled by a stifling defensive effort from The Rock, but the visitors registered the game's lone goal to sneak away with the road victory.

Limestone carried possession for most of the first half but was unable to crack the defensive line of Slippery Rock until earning a penalty corner midway through the frame. Junior forward Jill Funkhouser blasted a shot towards goal, but instead found the stick of classmate Allyson Meyer, who buried the deflection for a 1-0 Saints lead in the 23rd minute.

Slippery Rock settled in offensively and built up a few scoring chances late in the first half, but were turned away as they went to the break trailing 1-0.

Senior forward Allison Shade provided The Rock's best chance for the game-tying goal after finessing her way through the Saints defensive line and beating the Saints keeper, but Limestone defender Veronica Bosha stepped in for a devastating defensive save against SRU late in the second half.

Goalkeeper Carlee DuMars continued her impressive junior campaign by holding the nation's top leading scorer in Limestone's Rachel Goromonzi without a point and racking up nine saves, but was tagged with her first loss of the season.

Limestone posted advantages of 13-5 in total shots and 10-3 in shots on goal, while The Rock held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. With the loss, SRU drops to 3-1, while Limestone improves to 3-0 on the season.

Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Tuesday at Mercyhurst. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
