SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team outscored No. 15 Blooomsburg 9-4 over the final 20 minutes, but couldn't recover from a 10-0 Husky run midway through the game in dropping an 18-13 decision Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

The loss hurts Slippery Rock's chances at earning a postseason berth in the conference tournament, although The Rock remains alive in their quest for a PSAC berth for the first time since the program was reinstated in 2007. Slippery Rock stands at 4-6 overall and 1-4 in PSAC games after the loss.

Bloomsburg recovered from a loss to Lock Haven last week to improve to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in league action.

The Rock scored the first goal of the game and held the lead on three occasions early before Bloomsburg took its first lead, 4-3, with 11:08 to play in the first half. Erin Wilcox tied the game at 4-4 with just 10:03 to play before halftime, but Bloomsburg took control of the draw circle and capitalized with six straight goals to lead 10-4 at halftime.

The Huskies opened the second half with four more goals to cap a 10-0 run and take a 14-4 lead with 22:24 to play. Slippery Rock rallied and outscored Bloomsburg 9-4 for the rest of the game, including 5-1 in the final 11 minutes, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Morgan Pettit led The Rock with six goals and was a perfect 3-for-3 in free position attempts. Katie Cook added three goals and one assist, Paige Costantino scored two goals and Kaytlin Callaghan handed out two assists to cap the multiple point scorers.

Jess Verbic and Wilcox each scored one goal to round out the point scorers. Kaitlyn Hafdell led the defensive effort with five ground balls.

Jordan Wagner took the loss in goal after recording 12 saves and allowing 12 goals in 46:14 between the posts. Hannah Houde played 13:46 in goal and allowed six goals while recording three saves.

Bloomsburg was led by six points from Julie Falk with four goals and two assists, five goals from Marisa Moley and three goals and one assist each from Ashley Bossert and Brigid Kyne. Falk also pulled down a game-high 10 draw controls, which could have been the deciding factor in the game.

Abbey Burnett played the full 60 minutes in goal for Bloomsburg and recorded six saves.

The Huskies finished the game with advantages of 39-20 in shots, 17-11 in ground balls and 20-13 in draw controls and also only failed to clear the zone twice (8-of-10). Slippery Rock was 8-of-9 on the clear.

Saturday's game raised money for the Wounded Warrior Project as both teams wore special t-shirts in pregame warmups and sold shirts leading up to the game to generate funds for the charity endeavor.

Slippery Rock will close a three-game homestand Tuesday night when No. 7 Indiana (Pa.) visits Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for a 7 p.m. game.
