Morgan Pettit reached single-season and career scoring milestones Friday to lead The Rock to a 20-12 win over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Pettit scored a career-high eight goals to pass the 50-goal mark this season and also crossed the 100-goal mark in career scoring during the game. She now has 51 goals this season and 106 career goals, becoming the fifth player in SRU history to reach at least 100 goals. With one more, she will tie Regina Lynch for fourth on the all-time list.
Pettit's 51 goals currently rank tied for third in a single-season with Amy Halls, who also owns the school record for goals in a single season with 61. Pettit has three games remaining to move up that chart.
Slippery Rock won its second straight game Friday to improve to 6-8 overall and 3-6 in PSAC games. Millersville saw its season records drop to 5-9 overall and 1-8 in league action.
The game's statistics appear much closer than the final score as Millersville generated just five less total shots than Slippery Rock, but The Rock forced a total of 24 turnovers, six failed clears and recorded 15 caused turnovers to provide the edge for the hosts.
Slippery Rock also had an edge in goal, where
Jordan Wagner made 10 saves in the winning effort, compared to just five saves in a losing effort for Marauder keeper Kaitlin Crouthamel.
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 32-27 in total shots, 25-22 in shots on goal and 15-7 in caused turnovers. Both teams picked up 23 ground balls and Millersville posted a 21-13 edge in draw controls. The Rock was 7-of-15 in clear attempts, while Millersville was 6-of-12.
Pettit led all scorers in the game with her eight goals.
Paige Costantino and
Jess Verbic each scored three goals and handed out one assist,
Kaytlin Callaghan scored two goals and
Anna-Marie Warrington recorded two assists to cap the multiple point scorers for SRU.
Lacey Allis,
Mary Kate Schwartz and

The teams traded goals to open the scoring before Slippery Rock went on a 6-0 run to take control of the game. That run was sparked by a rare own goal after a shot from Warrington was saved, but flicked back into the goal by a Millersville defender. Pettit tallied two quick goals after that for her 99th and 100th career tallies.
Millersville answered the 6-0 run with a 5-1 run of its own to cut the deficit to 8-6 with just over two minutes to play in the first half, but Pettit scored her fourth of the game with just nine seconds left on the clock to send it to halftime with SRU leading 9-6.
Slippery Rock scored the first two goals of the second half to make it a five-goal deficit and Millersville would never get it back to less than a four-goal margin.
Friday was the second to last home game of the season for Slippery Rock, which will close the home schedule tomorrow when Kutztown visits for a 3 p.m. game. Pettit, Hafdell and Allis will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony before the game.
