Traditional Box Score (HTML)EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team erased an 8-4 second half deficit with a 6-0 rally to close the game in handing Slippery Rock a 10-8 loss in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday.
The Rock put together a 4-0 run early in the game and led 5-4 at halftime before opening the second half with three quick strikes to make it 8-4 with just under 27 minutes to play. From there, it was all East Stroudsburg as the Warriors rattled off six straight goals in the final 25 minutes to earn the win.
Slippery Rock drops to 4-8 overall and 1-6 in PSAC games with the loss, while East Stroudsburg, which snapped a five-game losing streak, improves to 7-5 overall and 2-5 in league games.
Morgan Pettit led The Rock with three goals, bringing her career tally to 95 as she closes in on the 100-goal mark.
Erin Wilcox added two goals and one assist,
Jess Verbic scored two goals,
Anna-Marie Warrington scored one goal and
Paige Costantino handed out two assists to cap the point scorers.
Jordan Wagner took the loss in goal after recording eight saves.
East Stroudsburg was led by Nicole Miller with five goals and Sarah Studdiford with one goal and two assists.
Jessica Maxwell earned the win in goal after recording five saves.
The Warriors finished the game with advantages of 22-15 in total shots and 24-21 in ground balls. Slippery Rock managed a 13-7 edge in draw controls.
Slippery Rock will return home to Mihalik-Thompson Stadium to play its next three games in a five-day stretch beginning Tuesday when Edinboro visits for a 7 p.m. game.
