SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 13th ranked Lindenwood University women's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run midway through the opening half to pull away and then held off Slippery Rock University for a 19-11 win in non-conference action Friday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Lindenwood (3-1) scored the first two goals of the game, but Slippery Rock (1-1) answered with the next two to tie the game at 2-2 with 22:49 to play in the opening half. From there, the Lions won five straight draw controls and rattled off an 8-0 run to take a 10-2 lead with 7:03 to play in the half.
Slippery Rock battled back and matched Lindenwood 9-9 the rest of the way, but could never recover from the deficit created in the opening half.
Morgan Pettit led The Rock with a six point effort with three goals and three assists and now has 10 goals and 14 points through two games this season.

Chynna Chan and
Katie Cook all scored two goals and
Anna-Marie Warrington handed out two assists to cap the multiple point scorers for SRU.
Erin Wilcox found the back of the net once and led the team with eight draw controls and
Kaytlin Callaghan capped the scorers with one assist.
Kaitlyn Hafdell led the defensive effort with one caused turnover and three ground balls.
Hannah Houde took the loss in goal after allowing 15 goals and recording 13 saves. She was spelled briefly in the first half by
Jordan Wagner, who allowed four goals and made one save in just under six minutes of action.
Lindenwood was led by and eight point night from Melissa Smith with five goals and three assists, while Shelby Polk added four goals and three assists. Melissa Menchella chipped in three goals and one assist and Maddi Ossello scored a hat trick to round out the Lions' top offensive players.
Christine Hehmeyer earned the win in goal to improve to 3-1 after allowing 11 goals and recoding six saves.
Lindenwood finished the game with advantages of 39-19 in total shots and 21-12 in ground balls. The Lions were 11-of-15 in clear attempts. Slippery Rock posted a 19-13 edge in draw controls, but was just 7-of-16 on the clear.
The Rock will close out a three game homestand to open the season when Roberts Wesleyan visits Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Tuesday, March 11, for a 4 p.m. match.
