SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team opened the 2014 season in convincing fashion with a 21-3 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock scored the first 10 goals of the game and led 11-1 at halftime as the outcome was never in doubt.

Slippery Rock opens the season at 1-0 and will have two more home games in the coming week, first hosting No. 13 Lindenwood Friday night at 7 p.m. and then hosting Roberts Wesleyan March 11 at 4 p.m.

West Virginia Wesleyan drops to 1-1 overall with the loss after opening its year with a 15-5 win over Chowan last week.

Slippery Rock was in control of every statistical category in the game, outshooting the Bobcats 42-11 in total shots and recording advantages of 21-10 in ground balls and 16-10 in draw controls. The Rock was 7-for-10 in clear attempts and limited West Virginia Wesleyan to just 2-of-9 on the clear.

The challenge Slippery Rock will get Friday appears on paper to be much tougher as The Rock will face their first nationally ranked opponent of the season in No. 13 Lindenwood. First draw from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
