Traditional Box Score (HTML)WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-8 decision Friday afternoon at No. 10 West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
The loss is the third in a row for Slippery Rock, which sees its season records drop to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in PSAC action. West Chester improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in league games with the win.
Slippery Rock will have little time to recover from the loss, as the team will visit Shippensburg Saturday for another PSAC game at 3 p.m. The Lady Raiders dropped a 17-8 decision to Seton Hill Friday afternoon to drop to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Rock were led Friday by
Morgan Pettit with four goals and
Paige Costantino with three goals.
Chynna Chan accounted for the final goal and
Erin Wilcox and
Mary Kate Schwartz each tallied an assist to round out the point scorers.
Wilcox and
Kaitlyn Hafdell led the team with three draw controls each, while
Katie Cook led the way with two caused turnovers and six players picked up at least two ground balls.
Hannah Houde took the loss in goal after recording seven saves and allowing eight goals.
Jordan Wagner relieved her for a spell in the middle of the game, playing the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half and allowed eight goals while making two saves.
West Chester was paced by an eight-point performance from Hannah Cowan with five goals and three assists. Erin Eckert added four goals and one assist and Ashley Pyle and Dina Cifelli each chipped in two goals.
Jess Henderson earned the win in goal after recording six saves.
West Chester finished the game with advantages of 32-17 in total shots, 25-19 in ground balls and 16-10 in draw controls.
The Golden Rams opened the scoring in the third minute, but less than a minute later Slippery Rock evened the score at 1-1 with a goal from Costantino.
West Chester answered The Rock's first goal of the game with a 6-0 run to make it 7-1 with just over seven minutes to play before halftime, a deficit Slippery Rock could never recover from.
The hosts pushed the lead out to 10-2 just 15 seconds into the second period before Slippery Rock scored three of the next four goals to cut it to 11-5 with 19:12 to play, but West Chester answered with a 4-0 run that put the game away.
The Rock scored three times in the final eight minutes, all goals from Pettit, to account for the final 16-8 tally.
Friday's game was the fourth consecutive game Slippery Rock has played away from home. The Rock closes the road trip tomorrow at Shippensburg and then will have three consecutive home games at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
