VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 24-5 win over Chowan University in non-conference action Thursday at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
Slippery Rock (3-1) used two separate 6-0 runs in the opening half and closed the first period with a 12-1 run to lead 15-3 at halftime, eliminating any chance for Chowan (2-6) to get back into the game.
Thursday's game ended up being a neutral site game after the match, originally scheduled for Tuesday at Chowan, was rescheduled and moved to Virginia Beach due to inclement weather and poor field conditions.
Chynna Chan led Slippery Rock's offensive performance with eight points on two goals and six assists. The six assists are a modern day (since the program was reinstated in 2007) single game school record, surpassing the previous mark of five assists in a single game set last spring by
Jess Verbic and
Paige Costantino.
Kaytlin Callaghan scored five goals and
Erin Wilcox and
Katie Cook each tallied four goals. Costantino finished with two goals and two assists and
Anna-Marie Warrington added one goal and three assists.
Morgan Pettit scored two goals and handed out one assist and Verbic added two goals. The multiple point scorers were rounded out by
Caitlynn Palladino with two assists.
Kristen McGrath and
Lydia Heishman each scored a late goal and
Lacey Allis rounded out the point scorers with one assist.
Jordan Wagner picked up her first win of the season in goal after playing the first 30 minutes. She allowed three goals and made six saves.
Hannah Houde played the final 30 minutes and allowed two goals and recorded four saves.
Slippery Rock will visit Shepherd University Saturday at 1 p.m. to close out the annual spring break trip.
