Rock downs Roberts Wesleyan, 22-16

Paige Costantino scored six goals and Morgan Pettit added five as Slippery Rock defeated Roberts Wesleyan 22-16 Tuesday evening.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season with a 22-16 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College Tuesday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium in non-conference action.

Roberts Wesleyan (2-5) scored just 20 seconds into the game, but Slippery Rock (2-1) weathered the storm and went on a 7-1 run to take a 7-2 lead nine minutes into the game.

The Redhawks would cut the deficit to three goals towards the end of the first half but two goals from The Rock in the final 30 seconds of the period made it 12-7 at the break.

Slippery Rock scored three of the first four goals of the second half and Roberts Wesleyan could never get closer than four goals the rest of the way.

Paige Costantino scored on her first five shots of the game to account for Slippery Rock's first five goals. She finished the game with seven points on six goals and one assist to tie Morgan Pettit for the team's top point scorer. Pettit, the PSAC Athlete of the Week this week, tallied five goals and handed out two assists.

Kaytlin Callaghan and Jess Verbic each scored a hat trick and Anna-Marie Warrington tallied two goals and one assist to cap the multiple goal scorers for The Rock.

Katie Cook and Mary Kate Schwartz each scored one goal and handed out one assist, Lacey Allis recorded two assists, Erin Wilcox scored one goal and Chynna Chan tallied one assist to cap the point scorers.

Wilcox finished with a team-high nine draw controls and Sarah Morris recorded team-highs of four caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Hannah Houde earned the win in goal, allowing 10 goals and recording eight saves in just over 37 minutes. Jordan Wagner played just under 23 minutes and allowed six goals and made four saves.

Roberts Wesleyan was led by a game-high nine point effort from Cassley Jackowski, who tallied seven goals and added two assists. Loren Dunn scored five goals and Ali Fox netted two goals and handed out one assist for the Redhawks.

Victoria Link took the loss in goal after allowing 22 goals and recording 11 saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 38-31 in total shots, 33-28 in shots on goal, 24-16 in draw controls and 21-20 in ground balls. The Rock were a perfect 2-for-2 on man-up opportunities and were 9-of-12 in clear attempts. Roberts Wesleyan was 9-of-17 on the clear.

Tuesday's game marked the first meeting between the two programs in women's lacrosse and capped a three-game homestand for Slippery Rock to open the year. SRU will play its next five games on the road before returning home April 1.
