SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Mercyhurst University rode a 20-1 run early in the second half of action Saturday to an 82-75 win over hosting Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division women's basketball action in Morrow Field House.
The Lakers trailed by 12 points, 46-34, when they began the decisive run and never trailed thereafter en route to their fifth win in 16 games this winter and third in six PSAC West contests.
SRU, which held a 10-point, 44-34, lead at halftime, saw its season record fall to 3-13 overall and 0-6 in division action.
The loss overshadowned another strong individual effort by Rock senior forward
D'Asia Chambers, who recorded game-high totals of 31 points and 13 rebounds in the game. Chambers, who made 13 of 18 field goal attempts and five of eight free throws, scored 14 of The Rock's first-half points and added 17 of the hosts' 31 second-half tallies.
Saturday's game marked the fourth time this winter Chambers scored 30 or more points.

Katie Fischer scored a team-high 20 points and Adrienne Kloecker collected 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists to lead Mercyhurst's attack. Alex Artise added 12 points, Mariah Pensascino scored 11 points and Alayna White had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers.
SRU finished the game with a 46% (26 of 56) efficiency on its field-goal attempts with an 8-for-19 (42%) effort from 3-point range. The Rock made 15 of 24 (63%) free throws.
Mercyhurst made 42% (26 of 62) of its action shots, hit eight of 25 (32%) long-range shots and sank 22 of 27 (82%) free throws.
Each team collected 37 rebounds. The Rock turned the ball over 17 times, compared to 10 miscues for Mercyhurst.
Both teams had a significant run in the first half of action, which ended with SRU on top by the aforementioned 10-point margin.
Chambers scored the game's first two points to give The Rock an early lead before Mercyhurst went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead after three minutes of action.
A 22-7 Rock run erased that difference and gave The Rock a 24-18 lead with 8:45 left in the first half. Mercyhurst trimmed the deficit to one point on two occasions in the next four minutes of the first stanza but was unable to pull even before the intermission.
As stated earlier, once the guests got the lead wit 15:00 left to play thanks to the decisive 20-1 run, though, they never relinquished it.
The Rock return to action Wednesday with a 6 p.m. home game against division rival Seton Hill. SRU then plays back-to-back road games at Indiana (Pa.) and Clarion.
