No. 10 Rock upset at East Stroudsburg, 4-3 in overtime

The tenth-ranked Slippery Rock field hockey team was upset by E. Stroudsburg, 4-3 in OT Saturday.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 10 Slippery Rock University field hockey team (3-5, 0-2) was upset at East Stroudsburg (5-4, 2-0), 4-3 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, The Rock drops to 0-2 in PSAC play, while East Stroudsburg improves to 2-0.

The Warriors got on the board first after a goal from Katie Barbato in the ninth minute.

Allison Shade answered with her second goal in as many days to tie things up in the 16 minute.

East Stroudsburg took the lead 2-1 after Becky Gagliardi snuck one into the back of the cage with seconds to spare before half time.

Lindsay Brown responded in the early going of the second half with her sixth goal of the season on a feed from Kelsey Gustafson, tying the game at 2-2 in the 39th minute.

Ally Roth gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead in the 50th minute in what seemed to be the game-clenching goal.

Brown momentarily derailed the Warriors hopes for the upset with the tying goal in the 68th minute, sending the game to overtime.

Roth capitalized on her second goal of the game just minutes into overtime, securing the 4-3 win for East Stroudsburg in the 73rd minute.

Brown led The Rock with two goals, while Shade added a goal and Gustafson recorded an assist.

Roth led The Warriors with two goals, while Barbato and Gagliardi each added a goal. Gabrielle Seibert had three assists and Jessica Lawville added two assists in the win.

Courtney Lee received the loss to drop to 2-3 on the season. Lee allowed four goals and made 11 saves.

Alexis Charles picked up the win after allowing three goals and making eight saves.

In the loss, Slippery Rock was edged 19-13 in total shots and 19-7 in penalty corners.

The Rock returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Indiana (Pa.). The match will not count towards PSAC standings and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
