MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team (3-3) fell 4-0 on the road Saturday at No. 3 Millersville (5-0). The contest was The Rock's second consecutive game against a nationally ranked opponent.
The Rock defeated No. 7 Bloomsburg Wednesday, but could not overcome the third ranked Marauders Saturday.
Millersville got on the board with a goal from Lauren Gerhart in the 16th minute of the first half and increased the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Rachel Dickinson in the 28th minute.
The Marauders extended the lead to 3-0 on Gerhart's second score of the match in the 49th minute. Emily Litchford capped the goal scorers, finding the back of the cage in the 57th minute to push the score to 4-0.
Courtney Lee (2-2) was tagged for the loss after allowing four goals and recording five saves.
Lauren Sotzin (5-0) made four saves to record her third shutout of the season.
Millersville continued its stellar start to the season, finishing the match with advantages of 14-7 in total shots and 14-5 in penalty corners.
Slippery Rock returns to action and begins Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play Friday, Sept. 27, on the road against Kutztown. The game will be the second of a four game road swing for The Rock.
