PUEBLO, Colo. – Slippery Rock University seniors Kevin Jewel and Cameron Daugherty both broke their own school records and recorded top-three finishes in their events at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships Saturday at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl.

The top eight finishers in all events at the national meet are awarded All-America honors by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Daugherty earned his fifth career All-America honor with a third-place finish in the pole vault. He broke his own school record with a clearance of 5.20 meters, topping the record he set earlier this spring of 5.19 meters.

Daugherty, who won the national title last outdoor season and finished second at the indoor championships earlier this year, was in a four-way battle for the top spot for most of the competition before bowing out after clearing an outdoor personal best of 5.20 meters (17' 0.75”).

He finishes his Rock career as the most decorated pole vaulter in program history, owning both the indoor and outdoor school records.

Jewel followed that performance with an incredible run in the 800-meter finals to place second, just behind the national champion from Ashland.

Jewel was fifth entering the final 100-meters of the race and kicked by nearly the entire field to take second in 1:49.09, breaking his own record of 1:49.82 set earlier this spring.

The All-America honor is the first in Jewel's career and comes in his final performance in a Slippery Rock uniform. He finishes his Rock career as the most decorated men's 800-meter run in program history, with three conference titles and three times under 1:50.00.

Daugherty and Jewel were joined at the National Championships by freshman David Reinhardt, who competed early in the day Saturday in the javelin. Reinhardt placed 15th with a throw of 60.02 meters.

Saturday concluded the National Championships and the 2013 season for Slippery Rock.

The Rock's women were also represented well Saturday at nationals, with Lexi Arnold taking third in the javelin to earn her second career All-America honor.

A complete recap of the SRU women's championship Saturday will be posted to www.RockAthletics.com following the conclusion of the 5,0000-meter final, which Stephanie Case will run at 9:05 p.m. EST.
