Rock women host Lock Haven Wednesday

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team welcomes Lock Haven University Wednesday for a 6 p.m. showdown between the two teams tied for seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division standings.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 4-17 overall record and a 3-14 mark in league games. The Rock is riding an eight-game losing streak and is coming off a loss at Mercyhurst Saturday.

Lock Haven owns a 6-15 overall record and a 3-14 mark in league games. The Lady Eagles are riding a seven-game losing streak and are coming off a loss at Edinboro Saturday.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 58.5 points per game and allowing opponents 72.0 points per game.

The Rock is shooting 36.0 percent from the field, 24.7 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 61.8 percent at the free throw line.

Opponents average 40.6 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from long range and 70.9 percent at the charity stripe.

Erinne Cunningham leads the team with 11.7 points per game and also has a team-high 36 steals. D'Asia Chambers scores 9.4 points and grabs a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game.

Christa Wodarczyk averaged 16.0 points per game in two games last week and shot .786 for the week. Erica Aiello averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 assists in two games last week.

SRU will welcome back Alexas Brown, Simone Aladenoye and Megan Hardiman for the game. All three sat out the last three games.

Scouting the Lady Eagles: Lock Haven is scoring 65.6 points per game and allowing 67.7 points per game.

The Lady Eagles are shooting 37.6 percent from the field, 27.0 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 70.3 percent at the free throw line.

Opponents average 38.5 percent from the field, 28.5 percent from long range and 72.8 percent at the charity stripe.

Kelsey Ryan leads the team with 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while Marrysa Moyer adds 10.6 points and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game.

J.J. Hilliard chips in 9.1 points and Emily Daugherty adds 8.9 points per game.

Series: Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 44-29, but Lock Haven  has won the last six meetings, including a 74-62 decision at LHU earlier this season.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her third season as the head coach at Slippery Rock. Longo has taken on a rebuilding project with the program and has posted a record of 13-60 in her tenure at SRU. Longo came to Slippery Rock after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Southern Illinois. Longo owns a 0-5 record in five games against Lock Haven.

Jennifer Smith is in her sixth season as the head coach at Lock Haven, where she has posted a record of 43-105. Smith has led the team to 26 wins since the beginning of the 2010-11 season after winning just 17 games in her first three years with the program. She is 7-4 all-time against SRU.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) Lock Haven earned a 74-62 win over Slippery Rock Jan. 16 at  Thomas Fieldhouse in Lock Haven.

J.J. Hilliard paced all scorers with 17 points to lead LHU. Kacie Hershey added 13 points, while Marrysa Moyer (12 pts, 14 reb) and Kelsey Ryan (12 pts, 10 reb) each recorded double-doubles. LHU posted a massive 46-24 rebounding advantage.

SRU was led by 15 points from D'Asia Chambers. Erica Aiello added 13 points, while The Rock got 12 points from Simone Aladenoye and 10 from Alexas Brown.

Hooping for a Cure: This Saturday's game against Edinboro is the annual breast cancer awareness game at SRU. All fans wearing pink will be admitted free. Donations will be accepted and a 50/50 raffle will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
