SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A 9-0 run by the guests early in the second half of action proved to be too much for the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team to overcome in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action at Morrow Field House.
The Rock and West Chester University battled to a 43-43 stalemate in the first 23 minutes of action before the Golden Rams' run made it a 52-43 game with 14:45 left to play.
SRU never trimmed the margin to less than five points the rest of the game and wound up on the short end of an 84-71 final score.
The loss was the fourth straight sustained by The Rock, who saw their season record fall to 1-9. With the win, West Chester improved its season record to 7-3.
The Rock look to end the skid Saturday when they visit Cheyney for a 1 p.m. PSAC interdivisional game.
SRU held the lead throughout the opening 12 minutes of action, with a high-water mark of an eight-point (20-32) lead after six-plus minutes.
West Chester battled back to tie the score at 24-24 with eight minutes left before halftime and never trailed thereafter, although the score was tied again at 26 and 32.
The Golden Rams scored the final five points of the first half to take a 37-32 lead into the intermission and added the first three points of the second half to hold a 40-32 lead with 19:30 left to play.
SRU made what proved to be their final run in the next 90 seconds to retie the score at 40-40 and again at 43-43 (17:00) before West Chester ran off the aforementioned nine consecutive points to take the lead for good.
The Rock trimmed the deficit to five points on two occasions, 54-49 with 12:45 left to play and 67-62 with 6:45 left, but could not get any closer.
West Chester's largest lead of the game was a 16-point, 84-68, advantage with 30 seconds left to play.

D'Asia Chambers each scored 14 points, with Chambers grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to record a "double-double." Sophomore guard/forward
Aidan Geise contributed 13 points to the SRU attack.
Dallas Ely scored a game-high 28 points for West Chester, while Brittany Sicinski added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Kendall Benovy finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Rock finished the game with a 48% (28 of 59) efficiency on its field-goal attempts, made 27% (6 of 22) from 3-point range and sank nine of 11 (82%) free throws.
West Chester, meanwhile, shot 40% (28 of 70) from the field, 36% (9 of 25) from long range and 79% (19 of 24) from the foul line.
The guests had a 40-35 rebounding advantage and were on the low end of a 22-11 turnover comparison, an advantage they converted into a 25-7 scoring advantage.
West Chester also had a 22-6 scoring margin in points scored by players off the bench, while The Rock had a 34-30 edge in scoring "in the paint."
