SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will open the 2013-14 season Saturday with a non-conference game against Ursuline that will be played at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.
Tip is set for 6 p.m. and the game is being played at John Carroll due to ongoing renovations after a storm caused severe damage on the Ursuline campus.

Records: Both teams are looking to open the year on a positive note after posting 4-22 overall records last season. Ursuline went 0-8 in league play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, while Slippery Rock was 3-19 in the PSAC.
Preseason Polls: Slippery Rock was picked to finish ninth in the PSAC-West this season in the preseason coaches poll. Ursuline was picked to finish seventh in the GMAC.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock returns five players this winter that averaged more than 15 minutes of court time each game last season.
The Rock was outscored by a margin of 73.2-58.7 points per game and shot 35.1 percent from the field in 2012-13.
Alexas Brown is the leading returning scorer, averaging 9.4 points per game last winter and leading the team with 87 assists.
D'Asia Chambers averaged 8.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
Jazmyne Frost returns to the lineup after missing most of last season with an injury. She was averaging 6.9 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game before she was injured.
Erica Aiello appeared in all 26 games as a freshman and finished the year with 69 assists, 20 steals and a 5.1 point per game scoring average.
Megan Hardiman rounds out the top returning players. She appeared in 20 games last winter, averaging 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Scouting the Arrows: Ursuline returns four starters from last season's 4-22 team that was outscored 73.8-53.0 on average.
Like Slippery Rock, only one player finished the year averaging more than 10 points per game and that player does not return this season.
Katie Cappello is the leading returning scorer after averaging 9.4 points per game last winter. She also pulled down 3.9 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 37 assists.
Brianna Woods averaged 9.0 points per game and led the team with 137 assists last year. Natalie Cook started in 21 games and averaged 6.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
Autumn Jones, who started in 15 games and averaged 2.7 points per game, rounds out the top returning players.
Series: Slippery Rock and Ursuline have met just once, a 67-59 win for The Rock in the early stages of the 2011-12 season.

Box Score) Slippery Rock scored a 67-59 win at Morrow Field House, Nov. 16, 2011, in the only meeting between the teams.
The Rock shot 33.8 percent from the field and knocked down 16 free throws. Ursuline shot 39 percent from the field but turned the ball over 19 times.
Jasmine Cooper led SRU with a double-double of 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Danielle Smith also had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Ursuline was led by Jaylene Taylor with 17 points and three other players with eight points.
Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 13-65. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire.
Shannon Sword is in her second season as the head coach at Ursuline, where she owns a 4-22 record. She is the fourth head coach in the program's history. The Ursuline job is the first head coaching job for Sword, who served as an assistant at the Division I, II and III levels before becoming a head coach.
Next Up: Slippery Rock opens the home portion of its season Nov. 12 when Wheeling Jesuit visits Morrow Field House for a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
