MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team (5-7, 1-3) earned its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory with a 3-1 decision at Mansfield (3-7, 0-4) Wednesday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until the 17th minute, when
Kelsey Gustafson connected on a feed from
Kaili Simmons to give The Rock a 1-0 lead off a penalty corner. The score would be the lone goal of the first half and carried Slippery Rock into the break with the lead.
Lacey Croasdale answered in the 48th minute for Mansfield, beating
Carlee DuMars in the top right corner to knot things up at 1-1.
Erika Rohrbach responded with what would be the game-winning goal in the 59th minute, pushing The Rock in front 2-1 with her first career goal.Â
Megan McKay snuck past the Mountaineers defense and scored on a fast break to give Slippery Rock a 3-1 lead in the 64th minute.
DuMars allowed one goal and made seven saves to record the win and improve to 3-3 on the season.
Kristie Rollman recorded the loss after allowing three goals on 13 saves.
The Rock posted advantages of 22-13 in total shots and 18-8 in shots on goal.
Slippery Rock returns to PSAC action Friday, Oct. 11 at home against Seton Hill. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
