SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team (6-10, 2-6) put a scare into the top-ranked Raiders from Shippensburg (15-0, 8-0), but fell 4-2 on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon.

No. 1 Shippensburg wasted little time applying pressure on The Rock's defense. Tori Ricker found the back of the cage in the 13th minute to open the scoring and give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

Despite being outshot 11-2 in the first half, The Rock was able to keep within striking distance thanks to the play of goalkeeper Carlee DuMars and two key defensive saves from Baylee Childress.

Lauren Taylor connected on a corner feed from Lucinda Kauffman in the 39th minute to give the Raiders a 2-0 advantage early in the second half.

The Rock had played defensive for much of the game, but unleashed back-to-back goals in less than 30 seconds to knot the game up at 2-2.

Meghan McKinney connected on a feed from Lindsay Brown at the 54:30 mark to cut the lead to 2-1 and  ignite a fierce comeback by The Rock.

Michelle Couch stole a pass on the ensuing Raiders' possession and stormed down the field before finding Brown with a between-the-legs pass to set up the game-tying goal at the 54:56 mark.

A timeout by Shippensburg tightened the focus of the Raiders. Megan Jett responded with a goal in the 57th minute to put Shippensburg back on top, 3-2.

Tori Ricker scored off a rebound in the final minutes to push the lead to 4-2 and wrap up the win for the top-ranked Raiders.

DuMars received the loss to drop to 4-6 on the season. DuMars allowed four goals while making eight saves.

Carenna Neely recorded the win to improve to 15-0 on the season after making two saves and allowing just two goals.

The Raiders posted advantages of 20-6 in total shots, 14-4 in shots on goal and 7-4 in penalty corners.

Slippery Rock returns to PSAC action Friday, Oct. 25 at Mercyhurst.
