Rock field hockey falls to IUP, 3-2

The Slippery Rock University field hockey team fell to IUP, 3-2 Wednesday night in Indiana, Pa.

INDIANA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team fell to Indiana (Pa.), 3-2 Wednesday night.

Lindsay Brown gave Slippery Rock an early 1-0 lead, connecting on a pass from Kelsey Gustafson in the 27th minute to find the back of the cage.

Casey McGowan responded for the Crimson Hawks and scored three unanswered goals. McGowan tied the game off of a corner in the 31st minute before giving IUP the lead, 2-1 in the 46th minute. McGowan registered a hat trick and pushed the lead to 3-1 in the 49th minute.

Brown scored her second goal of the game on a breakaway pass from Haley Martin in the 62nd minute, but The Rock could not complete the comeback.

Courtney Lee made three saves and allowed three goals to record the loss and drop to 2-4 on the season.

Darian Shuker made two saves and allowed two goals to improve to 3-6 on the season.

IUP held advantages of 16-4 in total shots, 6-4 in shots on goal and 17-4 in penalty corners.

Although both teams are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the match did not count towards the PSAC standings for either team.

Slippery Rock has now lost four straight contests, all on the road, to fall to 3-6 on the season.

The Rock returns home to Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for PSAC action against No. 2 Millersville Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
