Shippensburg rallies for 75-52 win over Rock

Shippensburg used a 25-5 run midway through the second half to break open a one-point game and hand Slippery Rock a 75-52 loss in PSAC crossover action Saturday.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team used a 25-5 run over a nine minute stretch in the second half to break open a one-point game and cruise to a 75-52 win over Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action Saturday night at Heiges Field House.

The Rock (2-9 overall, 1-6 PSAC) led for much of the first half before Shippensburg (8-4 overall, 4-3 PSAC) closed the half on a 23-11 run to lead 37-31 at the break. Slippery Rock battled back to within one point, 43-42, with 13:53 to play before the 25-5 run put the game away for the Lady Raiders.

Shippensburg capitalized when Slippery Rock went cold from the floor in the second half as The Rock knocked down just five field goals in the final 20 minutes and scored just 21 second half points.

For the second straight game Slippery Rock was led by a career-high performance from freshman point guard Erica Aiello, who scored 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Simone Aladenoye, making her second career start, scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds and Erinne Cunningham chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds. D'Asia Chambers added nine points and Emilee Vitez pulled down nine rebounds to cap the top performers.

Slippery Rock finished the game shooting 34.6 percent from the field (18-of-52), 26.1 percent from beyond the 3-point line (6-of-23) and 58.8 percent at the free throw line (10-of-17). The Rock was dominant on the glass with a 46-34 rebounding advantage, but turned the ball over 31 times.

Shippensburg was led by a 25-point effort from Sarah Strybuc and a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds from Stephanie Knauer.

The Lady Raiders shot 41.1 percent from the field (23-of-56), 38.5 percent from long range (5-of-13) and 61.5 percent from the free throw line (24-of-39). The hosts were composed with the ball, turning it over just 13 times in the game.

Saturday's game marked the third to last crossover game for SRU, which will close the crossover schedule next Friday and Saturday with home games against East Stroudsburg and Kutztown. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in both games.
