GREENSBURG, Pa. – The 10th-ranked Slippery Rock University field hockey team won its second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Saturday, defeating Seton Hill, 5-1.
Allison Shade scored the game's first two goals and Slippery Rock didn't look back as it coasted to the 5-1 victory.
The Rock improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC-West, while the Griffins fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC-West.
The first half was back-and-forth with both teams creating chances and SRU edging Seton Hill 6-4 in shots. Slippery Rock starting goalie,
Courtney Lee, made three of her six saves in the first half to keep the Griffins off the board.
Shade scored the first goal in the 20th minute and her second three minutes later on an assist from
Ally Banks.
Lindsay Brown added to the scoring in the 30th minute to put SRU up 3-0 going into halftime.
Early in the second half
Gabrielle Malishchak scored her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 4-0.
Rebecca Williams scored the fifth and final goal for The Rock off an assist from Brown. Seton Hill's Lauren Mariano tacked on the only goal for the Griffins in the 63rd minute.
Lee earned the victory for Slippery Rock making six saves to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Carlee DuMars saw 10 minutes of action in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal.
Seton Hill held advantages in shots (11-10) and penalty corners (9-7) but Slippery Rock edged the Griffins 10-9 in shots on goal.
The Rock is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Mansfield for a PSAC-West matchup.
