GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Four members of the Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team were named to the 2012 Academic Honor Roll by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association in a release Thursday.

In order to be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be at least a junior academically and have an outstanding academic record.

The Rock was represented on the team by recent graduates Amy Halls and Emma VanDenburg, along with incoming seniors Ariel Gilbert and Jami Meirick. Halls and VanDenburg are repeat selections, while Gilbert and Meirick each earned their first honor.

Halls, who graduated in May with a degree in business marketing, put together the best career of any player to ever wear a Slippery Rock lacrosse uniform. She led the team in scoring in all four seasons and finished her career with school records of 215 goals and 263 points. She was also named to Capital One Academic All-America honors for her outstanding performance in the classroom.

VanDenburg, who graduated in May with a degree in health and physical education, also finds herself among the school record holders. She finished her career with a school record 74 assists to go along with 70 goals. Her 144 points rank her third on the all-time scoring ledger.

Meirick, who is entering her senior year as a management and finance major, will return as one of the top defenders and leaders on the squad. She started in eight games last season and recorded nine ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Gilbert, who is entering her senior season as a health and physical education major, spent time in goal in two games last spring. She recorded her first career save and finished the year with four saves.

Slippery Rock finished the 2011-12 academic year with a collective team GPA of 3.263, which ranked as the highest in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Earlier this week, the program was awarded with the IWLCA All-Academic team honor.

Along with the outstanding year in the classroom, Slippery Rock also posted its best season since returning to the intercollegiate level in 2007, finishing with a 12-5 record and establishing a new school record for wins in a single season.
