INDIANA (Pa.) – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped its 10th consecutive game, 70-45 at No. 21 Indiana University (Pa.) Saturday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action.
With the loss Slippery Rock falls to 5-19 overall and 2-18 in PSAC play. Indiana improves to 19-5 overall and 15-5 in league play.
D'Asia Chambers led The Rock for the second consecutive game, netting a game-high 14 points.
Jasmine Cooper added six points and a team-high five rebounds and
Danielle Smith added six points to cap the top performers.
Slippery Rock finished the game shooting 42.1 percent from the field, connecting on 16-of-38 attempts, including 5-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc (35.7 percent). The Rock was 8-of-16 at the free throw line and was outrebounded by a 45-23 margin.
Indiana shot 37.3 percent from the field (22-of-59), 16.7 percent from long range (3-of-18) and 71.9 percent at the free throw line (23-of-32).
The Crimson Hawks were led by Sarah Pastorek with 12 points, while Amy Fairman chipped in 10 points.
Indiana scored the first five points of the game and opened a 10-2 lead at the 16:18 mark of the opening half. The Rock cut the deficit to five at 17-12 with 12:09 to play in the opening period, but the hosts answered with a 9-0 run to make it 26-12 with 6:06 left before the break.
The Crimson Hawks pushed the lead out to 35-18 at halftime and Slippery Rock would get no closer than 17 points in the second half.
The Rock will return home to close out the 2011-12 season when they face Gannon Wednesday night and Clarion next Saturday. Tip is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday and the game will be the annual White Out game. Special White Out t-shirts are available at the SRU bookstore for $5.
