ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team was held scoreless Wednesday afternoon as Mercyhurst College defeated SRU 3-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division competition. The loss drops The Rock's record to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC-West.

Alexandra Kirsch made three saves in the loss. For the game, Mercyhurst (4-3, 2-1 PSAC-West) outshot SRU 6-2 while also holding a narrow 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Mercyhurst struck first at 19:32 when Katlyn Heitzhaus deflected Kelley Hynes' shot past Kirsch to put the Lakers up 1-0. Slippery Rock attempted to answer back by drawing three penalty corners in the final five minutes of the first half, but was unable to convert any of their opportunities into goals as the period drew to a close with Mercyhurst leading 1-0.
Marissa Faso scored Mercyhurst's second goal of the game 12 minutes into the second period off of a penalty stroke to give the Lakers a commanding 2-0 lead. Rachel Sluberski extended Mercyhurst's lead to 3-0 when she scored the final goal of the game at 55:53.
Slippery Rock will look to snap its four-game losing streak 6 p.m. Friday when it hosts PSAC-West rival Seton Hill at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
