SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost its third-consecutive game Saturday afternoon as third-ranked Bloomsburg defeated The Rock 4-0 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Slippery Rock (1-6, 0-1 PSAC-West) allowed just one goal in the opening half and hung with the Huskies before Bloomsburg was finally able to crack SRU's defense with a three-goal second half en route to the victory. For the game, Slippery Rock was outshot 18-1 with Bloomsburg (6-0, 1-0 PSAC-East) also holding a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Junior Gabrielle Malishchak recorded The Rock's only shot of the day while freshman Kelsey Gustafson took a sure Bloomsburg-score away in the first half with a defensive save. Freshman goalie Alexandra Kirsch stopped a season-high eight shots in the defeat.

The Rock started the game fast by drawing a corner, at 3:08, which led to Malishchak firing a shot that was blocked by a defender before reaaching Bloomsburg goalie Meghan Hollenbach. However, it would be Bloomsburg that struck first when Amanda Riley scored the first of her two goals on the day at 7:37. Slippery Rock was able to keep its deficit at one goal (1-0) going into halftime thanks to a defense that successfully thwarted five more Huskie shots.

The Bloomsburg attack proved to be too much for Slippery Rock in the second half as the Huskies added three more scores off of shots from Brooke Simonovich (44:05), Lindsay Danz (51:48) and Riley (68:10) to close out the game.

Slippery Rock will look to snap its losing streak when it travels to play at Mercyhurst 4 p.m. Wednesday.
