KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team won its first game of the 2011 season Saturday by defeating Mercy College 3-0 at the Joshua W. Wesner Tournament in Kutztown, Pa.

Courtney Lee split duties in the cage to combine for the shutout. SRU dominated the game, outshooting Mercy 25-1 while also holding a 24-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Slippery Rock totaled 13 shots and 14 corners in the first half, but was unable to finish off any of its chances as the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
The Rock pulled away quickly in the second half when Simmons scored her first Rock goal 4:54 into the second period. Shade put SRU up 2-0 at 53:07. Williams added SRU's final goal of the game when she scored her second goal of the season at 57:22.

Lindsay Brown all tallied two shots on goal.
Moran and Simmons were named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event. Simmons finished the tournament with one goal, one assist and five shots on goal. Moran posted five shots on goal.
Slippery Rock will return home to host Shippensburg 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The game will be SRU's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game of the season.
