SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team set a modern-era school record for wins in a season with a 19-5 victory over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium Saturday night.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC, topping last season's win total of seven for the most wins since the program was reinstated in 2007. The eight wins are also the second most wins in a single season in SRU history, trailing only the 11-5-1 team from 1983.

Amy Halls scored a game-high six goals to bring her season tally to 45 goals, but more importantly to bring her career tally to 153, making her the first player in SRU history to reach the 150 goal milestone.

Slippery Rock never trailed in a game in which there was just one tie, at 1-1, before The Rock put together first half runs of 3-0, 4-0 and 4-0 to break away.

Halls led all scorers with her six goals and also posted a game-high six draw controls. Emma VanDenburg had her second six-plus point game of the week, netting two goals and handing out a game-high four assists.

Lauren Laubach added three goals and two assists for a five point night, while Alexis Slutsky notched three goals and one assist. Brittany Jaillet added two goals to cap the multi-goal scorers for The Rock.

Katie Roof found the back of the net once and handed out one assist, while Samantha Eddy and Ariel Knox each scored one goal and Casey Quinn capped the scoring with one assist.

Kat Elkins earned her eighth win of the season in goal, recording six saves and allowing four goals. Ariel Gilbert played the final 11:10 in net and allowed one goal.

Kutztown (4-7, 0-7 PSAC) was led by Emily Solt with two goals, while Kelsey Hogan added one goal and one assist. JoAnn McLaughlin took the loss in the cage, allowing all 19 goals and recording eight saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 34-15 in total shots, 20-6 in draw controls and 26-25 in ground balls.

Halls opened the game's scoring with her 40th goal of the season in the second minute but The Rock could not build that lead, missing on their next three scoring chances and allowing Kutztown to tie the game in the eighth minute.

From there, Slutsky notched back-to-back goals and Halls added her second of the game to put SRU up 4-1 with 18:57 to play in the opening half. Kutztown answered at the 17:41 mark to cut the lead in half, but The Rock responded with another scoring run.

Laubach sandwiched two goals around scores from Halls and Jaillet to push the lead out to 8-2 with 10 minutes left before the intermission. Kutztown broke up that scoring run with a tally at the 8:10 mark, but SRU closed the half with another 4-0 run to send the game to intermission with the score at 12-3.

Kuztown would never get the chance to recover as Slippery Rock opened the second half with a 5-0 run that capped a 9-0 overall run and put the game out of reach.

The Rock will play its next game on the road Tuesday at Indiana (Pa.) before closing the regular season with four consecutive home games. First draw for the Indiana game is set for 7 p.m.
