RALEIGH, N.C. - Crystal Burnick ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time and set a Slippery Rock record in the 5,000-meter run to lead the Slippery Rock University women's outdoor track and field team Friday at the adidas Raleigh Relays.

Burnick placed 10th in the 5,000-meter race, but more importantly clocked a time of 16:50.72. Her time easily beat the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 17:20.00 and also bested former Rock runner Jackie Cassebaum's time of 16:51.33 to set a school record. Cassebaum's former record had stood since 1985.

Three other SRU athletes met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standard in the 5000-meters Friday. Abby Michaellian ran a time of 18:15.83, Becky Younger posted a mark of 18:37.34 and Sally Dugas ran the distance in 19:06.87.

Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith placed sixth and 13th respectively in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:01.55 and 1:02.39. The two times met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard for the event, but Seigworth and Smith both already have better times to their names in the 400-meter hurdles this season. Jayme Stanek, who won her heat, improved on her previous PSAC qualifying time in the race, placing 31st in 1:04.99.

Distance runner Becky Belding finished in 30th place and qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 10,000-meter run thanks to a time of 38:29.01. Kaela Snyder also became a 2011 PSAC qualifier by running the 400-meters in 58.44.

Tiffany Tedesco rounded out The Rock's runners on day one of the Raleigh Relays by winning her preliminary heat in the 100-meter dash at a time of 12.70. Her mark was an improvement over her previous PSAC qualifying time of 12.75.

Slippery Rock will be back in action at the Raleigh Relays Saturday with select Rock athletes also competing at the Bill Van Horne Invitational in Wheeling, W. Va.
