INDIANA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team scored its first goal in three games Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as eighth-ranked Indiana (Pa.) defeated SRU 4-1 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division contest at George P. Miller Stadium in Indiana, Pa.

Freshman Lindsay Brown scored her first goal of the season and had two shots for The Rock (3-10, 2-4 PSAC-West) in the loss. Junior Gabrielle Malishchak also registered two shots for SRU. Freshman goalie Courtney Lee, who made her fifth consecutive start Wednesday, had four saves and allowed all four goals. For the game, the Crimson Hawks (8-4, 4-1 PSAC-West) outshot SRU 10-4 and also won the penalty corner battle 8-5.

Indiana controlled the first half by holding the SRU offense to no shots while firing off seven shots of its own. Anouk Sickman gave IUP a 1-0 lead 11:54 into the game when she scored off of a Crimson Hawk penalty corner.  Shannon Sullivan would then score the first of her two goals at 24:44 to give Indiana a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Sullivan scored her second goal off of a Sickman assist. Now trailing 3-0, Brown got The Rock on the scoreboard by beating IUP goalie Sarah Lemieux for a score 52:32 into the game. Three minutes later, Brown fired off a second shot on goal, but this one would be saved by Lemieux.

Sickman pushed Indiana's lead back to three goals (4-1) after scoring her second goal of the night in the 59th minute. Neither team recorded a shot for the final 10 minutes of the game.

Slippery Rock will close out its four-game road trip 1 p.m. Saturday at No. 2 Shippensburg. Earlier this season, SRU lost 5-0 at home to the Raiders.
