INDIANA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Playoff Tournament appearance since 1987 ended on a down note Tuesday night as Indiana (Pa.) defeated Slippery Rock, 2-0, at George P. Miller Stadium.

Slippery Rock and Indiana finished the game tied at six shots each with the Crimson Hawks holding a 10-7 advantage in corners. Indiana was able to translate two of its corners into goals.

The Rock was led by senior Erin Moran and sophomore Allison Banks with two shots each. Seniors Skylar Brosse and Brittany Schultz also recorded shots. Freshman goalie Courtney Lee took the loss after allowing two goals.

Slippery Rock recorded five shots in the first half, but was unable to beat Indiana goalie Brittany Varcello. Slippery Rock controlled the pace of the game early, recording three shots in the opening 10 minutes of play but it was Indiana that struck first when Annouk SIckman scored the first of her two first-half goals at 11:11 to take a 1-0 lead.

Both team's traded corners over the next 10 minutes until Sickman beat Lee for her second score of the game at 22:25 to give IUP its 2-0 lead. Banks and Moran both got off shots in the final 13 minutes of the first half, but were unable to score as Indiana took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was a battle between the two defenses. While Slippery Rock's defense kept Sickman and the rest of the IUP offense in check, The Rock's offense had just as much trouble against Indiana's defense and was not able to make a comeback in the 2-0 loss.

Slippery Rock ends its season with an overall record 6-13 and a 5-5 mark in the PSAC-West. SRU has now won six games in a season, two straight years after having won just 11 combined games from 2004-09.
