Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to Kutztown 3-0 Saturday at Thompson Stadium. The Rock (0-5, 0-1 PSAC-West) has now lost two games this season to the Golden Bears (3-1, 2-1 PSAC-East).

Despite not scoring a goal, SRU did put seven of its eight shots on target while also drawing 10 corners. However, Kutztown was able to win both the shot and corner battles by totaling 14 in each category.

Sophomore Gabrielle Malishchak led the way with two shots on goal Saturday for The Rock while five other Rock athletes also had shots on goal. Junior Skylar Brosse made two shot attempts with one being on goal.

Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro took the loss for SRU after stopping five shots and allowing all three Kutztown goals in 70 minutes. Junior defender Erin Moran saved a sure goal with a defensive save as well.

With the majority of the action to begin the game being played around the Kutztown cage, Slippery Rock was able to apply pressure on the KU defense. However, the Golden Bears were able to make the most of their limited opportunities early on when Jenna Gregory scored the game's first goal off of a deflection in the third minute for a 1-0 Kutztown lead.

The Rock defense did an admirable job defending Kutztown's seven corners in the first half, but KU would be able to make good on one at 23:22 when Abby Sheeler scored her second goal of the season to give KU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Slippery Rock came out on the attack to start the second half, forcing three corners early. However, The Rock would be unable to convert any into points and Kutztown would score the final goal of the night at 57:23 when Erin Reynolds put another deflected shot attempt past Belcastro.

SRU will look to pick up its first win of the season 11 a.m. tomorrow at home against C.W. Post
