SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Sophomore
Gabrielle Malishchak scored a goal off of a pass from freshman Allison Banks in the 44th minute of Saturday's game against Limestone College to give The Rock a 1-0 win at Thompson Stadium.
The non-conference victory improves Slippery Rock's record to 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Western Division. The Rock has now won two of its past three games. SRU's four wins are the most for the program in the past four years while the squad's 25 goals on the year are the most since 1998.
As a team, The Rock held large advantages in both shots (17-4) and corners (12-4) over Limestone.

Despite drawing six corners and firing off nine shots, Slippery Rock was unable to score a goal in the opening 35 minutes of play. However, the SRU defense proved to be stout and was able to hold Limestone (5-11) to just one shot in the half as the two schools went into the break tied at 0-0.
Just over eight minutes had passed in the second half when Malishchak hauled in a crossing pass from Banks and beat Lady Saints goalie Lindsay Hinton to put SRU up 1-0 off of her team-best fifth goal of the season.
The Green and White closed out the victory by keeping the pressure on Limestone with five more shots while the SRU defense faced just one more shot the rest of the way to claim the 1-0 win.
Lindsay Hinton led Limestone with five saves while Sara Parker recorded two shots.
Slippery Rock will look to win back-to-back games at Thompson Stadium for the first time this season on Wednesday against Mansfield at 4 p.m.
Notes: The Rock wore pink jerseys Saturday to cap off the team's "Play for the Cure" initiative, which took place at all home games in October. SRU sold t-shirts and took donations throughout the month. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
