SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Sophomore forward Rebecca Coleman recorded a hat trick Tuesday afternoon to lead the Slippery Rock University field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Mansfield on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The goals were the first collegiate points for Coleman.

The win ended a six-game losing skid for The Rock, who improved their season record to 2-6 and their PSAC-West mark to 1-2.

Mansfield lost its seventh straight game and saw its record fall to 2-7 overall, 0-3 in division play.
The Rock plays the second of four straight home games Friday when they host seventh-ranked Mercyhurst in a 4 p.m. PSAC-West game.

Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in Tuesday's game with a goal by Jaimie Purdy at 7:48 in the first half before Coleman scored two straight goals at 22:13 and 22:55, the first off an assist from junior Samantha Badaczewski, to give SRU a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

Mansfield's Kristy Tutorow scored the first goal of the second half at 42:01 to tie the score at 2-2. Coleman then responded with third goal of the game at 46:57 to put SRU on top by a 3-2 margin.

Mansfield tied the score for the third time when Courtney Grunza connected off of a corner at 52:13 before freshman Gabrielle Malishchak sealed the deal for SRU with the game-winning goal, assisted by junior Katie Krouse at the 57:41 mark.

Malishchak also recorded an assist on Coleman's third goal.

Rock junior goalie Lisa Belcastro recorded six saves in the game as Mansfield outshot The Rock by a 19-17 margin.

Tuesday's win marked the first Slippery Rock win over Mansfield since 1994 and snapped a 19 game losing streak against the Mountaineers.
