Field Hockey Junior Samantha Badaczewski recorded a goal and two assists in the win.

The Rock opens with a 5-0 win over American International

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  -- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team captured its season opener Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 win over American International at Thompson Stadium. 

Freshman Ariana White recorded two goals and assists on six shots to lead the team.   Junior Samantha Badaczewski recorded a goal and two assists on four shots and junior Katie Krouse recorded a goal and an assist on five shots.  Junior Allie Hartman took one shot that connected for a goal.  Junior goalie Lisa Belcastro recorded three saves en route to the shutout victory.

The Rock took a 2-0 lead into halftime with 11 shots to American International's four.  American International recorded one shot in the second half to The Rock's six.  The Rock had 17 shots on goal to American International's three. The Rock also led in corner shots 4-2. 

American International 's goalie Kim Steiner saved eight shots.

The next game for The Rock is next Saturday Sept. 5 at Shippensburg to start the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western division season.  The game will start at 1 pm.
