ERIE, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 contest Wednesday afternoon to Mercyhurst. The Rock falls to 2-16 overall and 1-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division.
Win the win, Mercyhurst, 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC-West, clinched a spot in the PSAC tournament.
The Lakers got on the board first when Sara Wowkowych scored from an Emily Warren pass in the fifth minute to gain the 1-0 lead.
In the 12th minute, junior
Katie Krouse beat Ashley Wiskup for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, and tied the game 1-1.
In the 26th minute, Warren found the back of the cage for her second point of the game, and giving Mercyhurst the 2-1 halftime lead.

Lisa Belcastro made all of her 10 saves in the first half.
In the 61st minute, Warren connected for her second goal of the game, and her 12th of the season, to secure the 3-1 victory.

The Rock returns to action on Saturday for their last home game of the season against Bellarmine at 4 pm at Thompson Stadium. SRU will also be participating in the “Play for the Cure”. Donations will be accepted at the gate and in the stands throughout the game and other fundraising initiatives will take place throughout the day. Checks can be made payable to “Play 4 the Cure.”
