Kutztown Box Score
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Freshman
Gabrielle Malishchak scored in the 56th minute of action Sunday afternoon to lead a comeback effort by the Slippery Rock University field hockey team, but the rally came up one goal short as sixth-ranked Kutztown nipped The Rock, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover matchup on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The goal was Malischak's third of the season and moved her into a tie for the team lead in that category. She is one of five Rock players tied for the team lead in points with seven apiece.
Junior goalie
Lisa Belcastro recorded six saves for The Rock (2-13). Malishchak led the Green and White in shots with three, while
Katie Krouse and
Ariana White each recorded two shots.
Kutztown (9-6) scored the first goal of the game in the final seconds of the first half on a tally by Anne Waapu.
Waapu scored her second goal of the game, and the eventual game-winner, in the 39th minute off an Abbey Sheeler penalty corner.
Kutztown recorded 19 corners during the game.
The Rock will look to end a seven-game losing streak when it returns to action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. PSAC-Western Division game against Indiana at Thompson Stadium.
