SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Rock gave sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg all it could handle Sunday afternoon but came up short of the desired upset win as the Red Raiders recorded a 1-0 win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover action" at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Rock sophomore goalie Lisa Belcastro (pictured above) tallied 14 saves in a complete-game netminding effort.
The only shot to get past Belcastro came 90 seconds into the second half of action off the stick of ESU sophomore Joanna Reckley, who was assisted by sophomore Caitlin Brownley.
SRU will look to snap a six-game losing streak Tuesday when it hosts fourth-ranked Shippensburg at 4 p.m. at Thompson Stadium.
That game will be the third straight The Rock has played against teams currently ranked in the top 10 of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II national poll.
The Rock lost a 5-2 decision Saturday to No. 5 Kutztown.
