Rock beats Catawba, 5-2

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior forward Jennifer Venet ([pictured above) scored two goals Sunday morning to lead The Rock to a 5-2 win over visiting Catawba College (N.C.) in non-conference action at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The win evened The Rock's season record at 1-1. Catawba also stood 1-1 following the game.

Sophomore forward Katie Krouse scored the first Rock goal in the sixth minute of action off an assist fromsophomore midfielder Allie Hartman to tie the score at 1-1.

Freshman Skyler Brosse scored SRU's second goal, off an assist from Hartman, in the 17th minute of action to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore forward Samantha Badaczewski scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, an unassisted tally, in the 53rd minute of action and started a three-goals-in-six-minutes scoring spurt by the Green and White.

Venet's unassisted goals in the 57th and 59th minutes closed out the scoring.

Sophomore goalie Lisa Belcastro recorded seven saves in a complete-game effort for The Rock.

Each team took 15 shots during the game, The Rock connecting on five of 12 shots on goal while Catawba nailed two of nine shots on goal.

The Rock will look to ring up its second win of the season and surpass last year's win total when it travels to Seton Hill University in Greensburg for a 4 p.m. non-conference game Thursday.

Seton Hill beat Catawba by a 5-3 score one day prior to Catawba visiting The Rock.

After visiting Seton Hill, The Rock returns home to face Indiana U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at noon Saturday at Thompson Stadium.
