KENT, Ohio -- Jennifer Hansen set a new school record in the pole vault event to headline The Rock's effort in the Kent State Tune-Up Meet.
Hansen had a winning vault of 12 feet, 9.5 inches in Saturday's competition and bettered her closest competitor by 17 inches.
Hansen's vault furthered solidified her spot as an automatic qualifier for this year's NCAA Division II national championship meet. She placed 11th in last winter's national indoor competition before claiming the national runner-up honor in the outdoor national championships.
Two of Hansen's teammates, Abby McKissick and Sarah Reppermund, placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in last Saturday's pole vault competition with vaults of 10-10.75 and 10-6.
Other Rock highlights included:
Whitney Hendershot tied for fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 5-3;
Allison Smith finished sixth and Jessica Sackin placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 9.30 and 9.35, respectively;
Jaime Wright placed seventh in the mile run with a time of 5:17.10;
The 4X400 relay team of Smith, Jayme Stanek, Sackin and Amanda Seigworth placed seventh with a time of 4:01.71.
The Rock now turns its sights on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held in East Stroudsburg March 1-2. SRU is the defending team champion.
