No. 11 Slippery Rock continues its three-game road swing with a noon kickoff at Millersville in PSAC crossover action.

Slippery Rock owns a 21-4-1 adavantage in the all-time series with Millersville, which dates back to 1938. The Rock have won the last 11 meetings in the series with the most recent Millersville win coming in 2004. This marks the fourth straight meeting where SRU is ranked in the top 15 nationally. The Rock have scored at least 42 points in each of the last six meetings. SRU is 10-2-1 all-time in Millersville and Shawn Lutz is 4-0 against the Marauders as head coach.

COACHING MATCHUP
Slippery Rock head coach Shawn Lutz is in his 31st overall year at The Rock and his 11th year (10th season) as head coach, where he owns a 90-25 record with nine straight winning seasons, five PSAC West titles and six trips to the NCAA playoffs. Lutz was the PSAC West Coach of the Year in 2018, 2019 and 2023 and was the Don Hansen Football Gazette Division II National Coach of the Year in 2019. The 90 wins are the most among all PSAC West head coaches since the 2016 season. Lutz was an assistant at SRU for 20 years before taking over the program in 2016. He has been a member of the coaching staff for 13 of SRU's 20 PSAC West titles. Lutz played tight end at West Virginia University, graduating in 1996, and earned a master's degree from SRU in 2003.
 
Drew Folmar is in his first season as the head coach at his Alma Mater. A former quarterback at Millersville and a Marauder Hall of Fame inductee, Folmar came back to Millersville after a 12-year stint coordinating offenses at the Division I FCS level with stops at Bucknell, Elon and Lehigh. He also served as offensive coordinator at Kutztown from 2009-12 and was the Golden Bears' head coach during the 2013 season. He earned his undergrad degree from Millersville in 2001 after winning 30 games as the starting QB for the program.
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Slippery Rock climbed two spots to No. 11 in the AFCA Division II national poll and remained at No. 14 in the D2football.com poll this week. Millersville is unranked. Both national polls are available on page nine of the PDF notes linked above.
 
JORDAN NAMED TO ALLSTATE AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM
Earlier this week, JayJay Jordan became one of only 22 players from all levels of college football to be named to this year's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, recognizing his good works off the field and his commitment to community service. Jordan is active in numerous charitable and community service projects, which included traveling to Puerto Rico to help recovery from hurricanes and numerous projects that serve both the SRU community and his hometown community of Reading, Pennsylvania. Jordan is one of only three players from Division II to be named to this year's team and is one of just 11 non-FBS players from all levels to be honored. He will be recognized on the field at the Allstate Sugar Bowl and CFP National Semifinal Jan. 15 at the Superdome in New Orleans.
 
STREAKING IN THE AFCA POLL
Slippery Rock has been ranked or at least receiving votes in every AFCA national poll released since Oct. 8, 2018, a streak of nearly 2,900 straight days.
 
LAST WEEK FOR SLIPPERY ROCK
Slippery Rock scored on seven straight possessions and rolled to a 59-35 win on the road at East Stroudsburg, which was receiving votes in the national poll. The Rock put up 594 yards of offense and did not turn the ball over in the win. JayJay Jordan ran for 228 yards and three TD, DaOne Owens completed 23-of-30 passes for 250 yards with three TD and no INT and John Sabo caught two TD passes. Elijah Halley led the defense with 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble.
 
ROCK EARNS PSAC WEEKLY AWARDS
RB JayJay Jordan and DE Elijah Halley were named the PSAC West Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week after the win at East Stroudsburg. SRU has earned the PSAC offensive and defensive weekly honors after each of its two games so far this year.
 
LUTZ GRABS 90TH WIN AT SRU
SRU head coach Shawn Lutz picked up his 90th win last week to become just the 13th PSAC head coach to reach 90 wins while coaching in the conference. He is the fastest SRU coach to ever get to 90 wins and now ranks third all-time at SRU in coaching wins behind George Mihalik (197) and N. Kerr Thompson (126).
 
LAST WEEK FOR MILLERSVILLE
Millersville jumped out to a 9-0 lead on California (Pa.) in its home opener, but the Vulcans closed the game on a 40-8 sprint to earn a 40-17 victory. Cal outgained Millersville 577-253 with 384 passing yards and 193 rushing yards. The Marauders put up 214 passing yards and 39 rushing yards. Eddie Corkery (8-22-115) and Tommy Hunsicker (7-10-99) combined to go 15-of-32 for 214 yards with two TD and two INT in the passing game. Jayden Walters caught four passes for 96 yards and one TD.
 
MARAUDERS QUICK HITS
• Millersville is 0-2 with a narrow 24-21 road loss at Glenville State and last week's 40-17 loss to Cal (Pa.).
• The Marauders are scoring 19 points per game and averaging 278 yards of total offense with 128.5 rushing yards and 149.5 passing yards per game.
• Opponents are scoring 32.0 points per game and averaging 493.5 yards of offense per game, including 163.0 rushing yards and 330.5 passing yards per game.
• Two QBs have played with Tommy Hunsicker getting the starts. He is 17-of-31 for 177 yards with one TD and two INT and is also the team's leading rusher with 125 yards and two TD. Eddie Corkery is 8-of-22 for 115 yards with one TD and one INT.
• Jayden Walters leads the receivers with five grabs for 104 yards and one TD.
• Bryce Beutler leads the defense with 22 total tackles and 2.0 TFL.
 
ROAD SWING
This week marks the second straight road game and second straight overnight trip for SRU in a stretch of three consecutive road games this month. After a week zero game in August, The Rock will play no home games in the entire month of September before returning home Oct. 3.
 
THREE IN A ROW HISTORY
This current road swing marks the first time SRU has played three straight on the road since the end of the 2024 season when The Rock played at Kutztown in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs, at Cal (Pa.) in the quarterfinals and at Ferris State in the national semifinals. SRU went 2-1 in that stretch with the loss coming to national champion Ferris State (48-38). Prior to that, the last time SRU had played three in a row was the NCAA Playoffs in 2018, with road wins at LIU Post in the first round and at New Haven in the second round before a narrow loss at Notre Dame (Ohio) in the quarterfinals. The last time SRU had three straight road games during the regular season was all the way back in 1995 with the first three games of the season at Indianapolis, West Virginia Wesleyan and Youngstown State.
 
FIRST ROAD GAMES
Slippery Rock has now won its first road game in each of the last seven seasons. The last time SRU failed to win its first road game was back in 2018 at Shippensburg.
 
FIRST DAY GAME OF THE YEAR
Slippery Rock played its first two games under the lights and will now set up to play back-to-back noon kickoffs on the road the next two weeks. The Rock went just 1-3 in noon kickoffs in 2025 and have lost their last two games that started at noon (weeks nine and 10 in 2025).
 
OFFENSE EXPLODES AT ESU
Slippery Rock scored 59 points and put up 594 yards of total offense with 344 rushing yards and 250 passing yards last week at ESU. It was the first game SRU had more than 550 yards of offense since putting up 670 against Edinboro Nov. 4, 2023. It was also the first time SRU scored more than 50 points in a game since scoring 56 in a 56-18 win at Edinboro, Nov. 4, 2023.
 
OWENS SHINES IN FIRST START
QB DaOne Owens started the last eight games of the 2025 season but did not start the opener this year. He came on in the fourth quarter of that game and rallied SRU to an overtime win against Minnesota Duluth before being named the starting QB last week. In his first start of the season, Owens was nearly flawless in leading the offense. He completed 23-of-30 passes for 250 yards with three TD and no INT and never put the ball in trouble. He also ran for 36 yards on three carries to finish with 286 yards of total offense.
 
OWENS ON NATIONAL LISTS
DaOne Owens enters this week ranked ninth nationally in completion percentage (69.8%), eighth in passing efficiency (178.6) and 15th in yards per pass attempt (9.3).
 
JORDAN GOES OFF (AGAIN)
RB JayJay Jordan ran for 228 yards and three TD on 24 carries last week, averaging a whopping 9.5 yards per carry. The 228 rushing yards is the most by any player in the PSAC this year and the fifth-most in a game by any running back in Division II this fall. It marked the eighth 100+ yard game in his last 12 games and the second 200+ yard game of his SRU career.
 
JORDAN MOVES UP NATIONAL LISTS
JayJay Jordan had just 27 rushing yards on only seven carries in the season opener, but after last week's huge performance he has already climbed back into the top 10 in most national offensive categories. He enters this week ranked eighth in Division II in all-purpose yards (160.5 per game), fourth in scoring (15.0 points per game), eighth in yards per carry (8.1), ninth in rushing yards per game (125.5), 10th in total touchdowns (5) and 12th in rushing touchdowns (4).
 
McCOY FINDS END ZONE
RB Luke McCoy also had a strong day at ESU and finished with seven carries for 57 yards with one TD, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. His TD was a 28-yard scamper after catching a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage.
 
SABO ADDS TWO MORE SCORES
WR John Sabo caught two TD passes at ESU and now has three TD grabs on the season. He ranks 15th nationally in total TD catches.
 
SINGLE-GAME STREAKS
John Sabo has now caught at least one pass in 11 straight games. JayJay Jordan has at least one touchdown in eight straight games.
 
SPREAD IT OUT
Eight different players have at least two catches on the year in the passing game for SRU with TE Vincent Berardi leading the way in yardage with seven grabs for 134 yards and two TD. John Sabo (10-109-3), Reggie Fleurima (6-89-0), Hamilton Gates (4-69-0), Ethan Trettel (3-59-0), JayJay Jordan (6-40-1), Jahmil Perryman (3-31-1) and Carson Heckathorn (2-23-0) have combined for 554 yards and seven TD grabs in two games.
 
OFFENSIVE LINE EXPERIENCE
Slippery Rock rolled out an entirely new starting offensive line in the opener. The combined total of starts at SRU for all five players on the line was just three and all three of those belonged to center Mohamed Aly, who then missed last week with an injury. Right tackle Jake Jonassen, right guard Christian Werling, left guard Brian Frasco and left tackle Varrius Farrell all made their first start at SRU in the opener and center Soren Stoltzfus made his first start last week at ESU. Despite the lack of experience, the unit has allowed just one total sack through two weeks, which came in the opener against Duluth.
 
THIRD DOWN OFFENSE
Slippery Rock went 0-for-10 on third down in the opener against Duluth and was one of only three teams in the country that entered last week without a single third down conversion. The Rock went 5-for-9 on third downs last week at ESU to raise that percentage to 26.3% on the season (5-of-19).
 
MACEK GETS IT DONE
Kicker Connor Macek booted a game-tying 27-yard field goal to force OT in the opener and continued his strong start to the season last week with a 33-yard field goal at ESU and eight PAT kicks to tally 11 total points on the night. Through two weeks, Macek is 2-for-2 on field goal kicks and 12-for-12 on PAT kicks while also averaging 37.3 yards per punt.  
 
NO TURNOVERS
Slippery Rock did not turn the ball over last week against ESU and has now gone two full games to open the year without a turnover.
 
OFFENSIVE RANKINGS
Slippery Rock enters this week ranked third in the nation in scoring offense (52.0 points per game), 11th in total offense (492.5 yards per game), 16th in passing efficiency (170.2), 19th in passing offense (277.0 yards per game), 10th in fewest sacks allowed (0.5 per game) and 15th in fewest tackles for loss allowed (3.50 per game).
 
DEFENSIVE LINE SHAKEUP
SRU played last week without both of its former All-PSAC defensive linemen as DE Brett Kwoka and DT Trever Valenti both sat out the game with injuries. DE Jett Franz, who started the opener, also missed the game with an injury. That paved the way for Elijah Halley to get the start and Halley made the most of it, recording five tackles and career-highs of 3.5 TFL and 2.0 sacks to go along with one forced fumble. Both Kwoka and Valenti are expected to dress this week.
 
HARPER MAKES FIRST START
DB Evan Harper has had an interesting path to the starting lineup at SRU. He opened his career at Tiffin before transferring to The Rock as a wide receiver. After playing as a reserve receiver, Harper made the switch to defense last year and saw increased minutes in the secondary, mostly at the safety position. This fall, he moved to corner and earned a starting role, only to suffer a late camp injury and miss the opener. He made his starting debut at ESU last week and finished with six tackles to lead all players in the secondary.
 
SCALES OFF TO STRONG START
True freshman DB Aaron Scales Jr. returned a fumbled 65 yards for a touchdown in his first collegiate game to help lift SRU to a comeback win over Duluth. He had another solid day last week at ESU and now has 11 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and the fumble return TD through the first two games of his college career.
 
FRONT SIX LEADING THE DEFENSE
Linebackers Jacob Snow (14 tackles, 1.5 TFL) and Teddy Gregory Jr. (12 tackles, 0.5 TFL) have combined with edge rusher Brian Young Jr. (14 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks) to lead the defensive unit so far this fall. Snow has recorded at least seven tackles in each game. DT Daniel Tooson (11 tackles) has been solid in his return to the lineup after missing the entire 2024 and 2025 seasons with injuries. Ends Elijah Halley and Brett Kwoka have combined for 6.0 TFL and 3.5 sacks.
 
LANE CONSISTENT IN SECONDARY
Safety Ben Lane leads all SRU defensive players in solo tackles this year with nine of his 10 total tackles being credited as solo stops. He also leads the secondary with two pass breakups.
 
JUJU ON THE MOVE
Slippery Rock made a position change this week, shifting highly touted true freshman JuJu Johnson from offense to defense. Johnson, who played both ways in high school, has switched to number 7 and will line up this week as a defensive back.
 
DEFENSE HAS ROOM TO IMPROVE
Through two weeks, SRU ranks 155th out of 159 teams in Division II in rushing defense, allowing 305.5 rushing yards per game. SRU ranks 146th in total defense, allowing 488.0 yards per game and ranks 138th in scoring defense, allowing 39.0 points per game.
 
STARTERS NOTES
Entering this season, Slippery Rock had just nine players that had started at least 10 games at SRU. Trever Valenti leads all players on the team with 24 starts, but had the longest active streak on the team snapped at 24 starts when he missed last week. Daniel Tooson, who missed all of the 2024 and 2025 seasons, is the only other player with more than 20 starts on the roster (23). Just two players on the roster started all 10 games last year and the first two games this year - RB JayJay Jordan and WR John Sabo.
 
FIRST CAREER STARTS AT SRU
Nine players made their first career SRU start in the opener, including QB Brad Hoffman, WR Reggie Fleurima, OL Varrius Farrell, OL Brian Frasco, OL Christian Werling, OL Jake Jonassen, DB Owen Suah, DB Aaron Scales Jr. and DB Jonah Brown. Three more players made their first start in week two, inlcuding WR Ethan Trettel, OL Soren Stoltzfus and DB Evan Harper.
 
WINNING SEASONS STREAK
Slippery Rock has put together a winning season in each of the last 16 years, which ranks ninth among all Division II programs for the longest active winning seasons streak in the country. The only other program in the PSAC with more consecutive winning seasons currently is California (Pa.), which has strung together 21 winning seasons entering 2026.
 
HOME FOR FIVE OF SEVEN
The opening road swing means that SRU will play five of its last seven regular season games at home between Oct. 3 and Nov. 14. The only road trips in that stretch will be visits to rival Indiana (Pa.) Oct. 17 and a trip to Clarion Oct. 31. SRU will host Gannon Oct. 3, Seton Hill Oct. 10, Lock Haven Oct. 24, Edinboro Nov. 7 and Lackawanna (or the PSAC title game) Nov. 14.
 
TEAM CAPTAINS
After voting by the players, SRU named six captains for the 2026 season with three on offense and three on defense. The offensive captains include running back JayJay Jordan, quarterback Brad Hoffman and tight end Vincent Berardi. The defensive captains include defensive end Brian Young Jr. and linebackers Jacob Snow and Teddy Gregory Jr.
 
JORDAN NAMED TO D2FOOTBALL ELITE 100 WATCHLIST
SRU running back JayJay Jordan was one of four total running backs in the nation to be named to first or second team honors on the D2football.com Elite 100 Watchlist, which replaced the preseason All-America team.
