EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The 13th ranked Slippery Rock University football team put on an offensive showcase on the way to a 59-35 victory over East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference game Saturday night from Eiler-Martin Stadium.
 
The Rock improve to 2-0 on the year after picking up a win over the Warriors, which entered the game receiving votes in the national poll this week. ESU drops to 2-1 on the year.
 
Offense was the name of the game Saturday night and it came early and often as SRU racked up 31 points in the first half. ESU tried to keep pace and hit some big offensive plays of its own to score 21 points in the opening half, but SRU outscored the Warriors 14-0 in the third quarter to break the game open.
 
Slippery Rock racked up 38 first downs and 594 yards of total offense with 344 rushing yards and 250 passing yards. ESU put up big numbers as well, going for 458 total yards with 217 passing yards and 241 rushing yards.
 
DaOne Owens was nearly flawless at the QB position while leading the offensive explosion, completing 23-of-30 passes for 250 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 36 yards on three carries.
 
JayJay Jordan combined with Owens for a 1-2 punch with Jordan racking up huge chunks of yardage on the ground all night. He finished with 228 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries, averaging 9.5 yards per carry. Luke McCoy added 57 rushing yards and one touchdown and Brad Hoffman ran for 16 yards and one TD in the ground game.  
 
John Sabo caught two touchdown passes in the first half and finished with eight catches for 93 yards and two scores to lead the receivers. Vincent Berardi caught three passes for 38 yards, Hamilton Gates caught three passes for 37 yards, Reggie Fleurima caught three passes for 33 yards and Jahmil Perryman caught three passes for 31 yards and one TD.
 
Elijah Halley led the defense with five total tackles, including 2.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. Jacob Snow added seven tackles, Evan Harper chipped in six solo tackles and Brian Young Jr. added five stops. Aaron Scales Jr. also had five tackles with one TFL.
 
Connor Macek stayed perfect on the year with a 33-yard field goal in the first half while hitting all of his extra points for the second straight week.
 
ESU QB Harrison Susi completed 13-of-22 passes for 213 yards with one TD and no INT. He also ran for 60 yards. Four different Warriors finished the night with one rushing TD.
 
Slippery Rock will have another long overnight trip next week with a noon game next Saturday at Millersville University.
 
GAME NOTES: Slippery Rock improved to 17-3 in the all-time series against ESU and won its sixth straight game in the series … SRU head coach Shawn Lutz improved to 90-25 and became the 13th coach in PSAC history to reach 90 wins in the league … SRU has now won its first road game in each of the last seven years … SRU is now 39-1 in its last 40 night games that kicked off at 4 p.m. or later … SRU has won nine straight road night games dating back to 2009 … SRU did not turn the ball over for the second straight game … WR John Sabo has now caught a pass in 11 straight games … RB JayJay Jordan has scored at least one TD in eight straight games … Jordan had his eighth 100-yard rushing game in his last 12 games … SRU played without All-PSAC defensive linemen Brett Kwoka and Trever Valenti and also without starting center Mohamed Aly who all missed the game with injuries … OL Soren Stoltzfus made his first career start at center … DB Evan Harper made his first career start at corner.
