LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team was selected to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division preseason coaches' poll, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Defending PSAC Tournament champion Gannon University grabbed five first-place votes and was picked to finished atop of the PSAC West for the fourth straight season, while Seton Hill University took the remaining first-place vote in second place. Lock Haven University slots into third place in front of The Rock, who are followed by California (Pa.) and Pitt-Johnstown.

Millersville University tallied four first-place votes and took the top spot in the polls for the PSAC East. West Chester University received the final two first-place votes for the East Division and slotted in second, followed by Bloomsburg University, East Stroudsburg University, Shepherd University and Shippensburg University.

REWIND TO 2025
Slippery Rock is coming off a 2025 campaign in which held a 7-7-3 record, its second consecutive season with a winning percentage of at least a .500 after a 9-4-3 record in 2024. The Rock missed out on the PSAC Tournament in 2025 by one point behind Lock Haven.

WILHELM BACK AT THE HELM FOR YEAR 9
The Rock see a familiar face at the helm as head coach Kevin Wilhelm is back for his ninth season at SRU. Wilhelm is looking to build off of the momentum created by past two seasons where Slippery Rock went 16-11-6 and made its first PSAC Tournament appearance since 2019 in the 2024 season.

NEW FACE ON THE ROCK'S COACHING STAFF
Slippery Rock alum Iain Langstone joins The Rock's coaching staff in 2026 after spending the last two season as an assistant coach for Division I George Washington University. Before the Revolutionaries, Langstone coached with former SRU head coach Matt Thompson for six seasons at the University of the District of Columbia, where they helped lead the Firebirds to their second-ever East Coast Conference title game appearance in program history in 2023.

As a player, Langstone tallied 30 points on 12 goals and six assists that includes six game-winning goals, the third most in SRU history in 77 games played from 2006-09. Lamgstone scored four goals and totaled 10 points in Slippery Rock's 2009 PSAC Tournament Championship team that finished the year ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Rounding out Wilhlem's staff, first-year graduate assistant Jack Smith will tag along after his four-year career at The Rock. Smith played 62 games, with 17 starts, grabbing three assists in 2,358 total minutes (38 mpg).

LOSING KEY STARTERS
The Rock will be charged with replacing 86 percent of their saves, 34.2 percent of their minutes played, 29.4 percent of their assists and 15 percent of their points from a season ago, which included All-PSAC West Second Team honoree Colton Spence, starting goalkeeper Alvey Kaufman and starting forward Cornelis Dedecker.

BUT AN ABUNDANCE OF TALENT RETURNS
Despite the production lost from a season ago, the roster returns a bevy of talent as Slippery Rock brings back 10 players that appeared in at least 10 games last season, including All-PSAC West Second Team members Kaden Reynolds and Ryan Hanes.

RETURNING SENIORS
Hanes has played in every game during his first three years at SRU and will look to solidify the midfield for The Rock. Hanes has one goal and two assists in 52 games and 40 starts for Slippery Rock.

Forward Aashi Pandher is the leading scorer for the senior class as the Brampton, Ontario native has racked up four goals and six assists for 14 points on 65 shots in 35 games and 28 starts.

Defenders Gabin Lonjard and Patrick Tierney combined to play in all but one game, that included 32 starts in 34 opportunities in 2026. Each scored a career-high two goals from the backline as Lonjard's two markers matched his output from 2023 with The Rock.

Dylan Greggs returns for year number two at SRU as the senior played in all 17 contests last year, starting 14 and recording two shots in 1,106 minutes as a defender. Greggs was one of seven players to play in all 17 games last season.

Dalton DeShong appeared in seven games in 2025, totaling one shot on goal in 46 minutes.

RETURNING JUNIORS
Reynolds looks to repeat his production from 2025 in his junior campaign. The forward found the back of the net a team-high eight times and dished out one assist for a team-leading 17 points. Reynolds' eight goals and 17 points were the program's highest in a season since Arturo Pla Hernandis' 10 goals and 22 points in 2023.

Jimmy Irani started 16 of 17 games in the midfield for The Rock in his sophomore season. The Grove City product slotted two game-winning goals and one assist for five points. Irani also logged the sixth most non-goalkeeper minutes on SRU as well the third-most in the midfield.

Gerard Lopez Marti got into 11 games as a reserve a season ago. Lopez Marti took three shots, landing one on goal in 191 minutes (17.4 mpg)

Dylan Bliss and Plamedi Warsinsky also enter the upperclassmen portion of their careers.

RETURNING SOPHOMORES
Zsombor Retfalvi was a mainstay in the starting lineup as the midfielder started 16 of 17 games while tallying eight points on two goals and four assists. Retfalvi's four assists were second on SRU in 2026.

Massimo Cuda enters the season after playing in 16 games as an integral part of the midfield last season off the bench. Cuda picked up his first two career assists in 530 minutes.

Troy Nine, one of three goalkeeper's onhte roster, returns after  starting four games in 2025, going 2-1-0 with seven saves on 10 shots on goal for a .700 save percentage in 315 minutes.  

Thomas Uckert and Michael Vandersmissen enter their respective second seasons at The Rock after each playing in six matches a season ago, while Jonathan Anthony took the field in three games for a total of 38 minutes in his freshman campaign.

NEW FACES
Slippery Rock brings in 10 new players to the 2026 roster through first-year players and the transfer portal.

PORTAL PICKUPS
The Rock added three transfers through the portal, adding experience to the 2026 roster in the form of junior forwards Tom Roantree and Caleb Alldredge, as well as junior midfielder Patryk Strzelak.

Roantree began his collegiate career at North Carolina Wesleyan University, where he totaled 12 points on five goals and two assists with two game-winning goals in 24 games and 16 starts over the span of two years. Roantree led the Battling Bishops to a USA South Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 2025 after posting team-highs in both goals (5) and total points (12).

Alldredge is coming to SRU after playing two seasons at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The forward tallied four points on one goal and two assists on six shots in 26 games with three starts. Alldredge was on the field for 692 total minutes over the 26 contests (26.6 mpg).

Strzelak rounds out The Rock transfers for the 2026 season. The midfielder started his college career at Bryant and Stratton College where he played in three games for the Bobcats. After his freshman campaign, Strzelak transferred to Herkimer College. With the Generals, Strzelak logged a team-high 17 points with a team-leading seven assists as well five goals, which ranked fourth on the team.

2026 SCHEDULE
Slippery Rock's 17-game schedule includes seven non-conference contests as well as its 10-fixture PSAC West round robin slate. The Rock will host eight of their 17 games. SRU will face-off with the same seven non-conference opponents as a season ago, with the home team switching in each matchup. Slippery Rock finished its non-conference slate with a 3-3-1 record in 2025.

Slippery Rock will play six consecutive non-conference games to open the year before delving into PSAC West competition with only its Oct. 3 game against Shepherd breaking up the conference schedule.
 
If Slippery Rock finishes in the top four of six teams in the PSAC West, The Rock will see their season continue into the PSAC Tournament for a second time in three years.
