SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University head men's soccer coach Kevin Wilhelm has announced former SRU player Iain Langstone will join the program as a full-time assistant coach beginning this summer.
 
Langstone, who starred on the most successful men's soccer team in program history in 2009, earned an undergraduate degree from The Rock in 2010 and went on to earn a master's degree in sports science and recreation from Ohio University.
 
"I am very pleased to welcome Iain and his family back to The Rock," said Wilhelm. "I was lucky enough to get to know him as a player during his time on the legendary teams of 2007-09, and have followed his coaching path closely since his graduation from SRU. Iain is a great hire for Rock soccer and is imbedded in the tradition of the program. His coaching and recruiting experience at the Division II and Division I levels will continue to give our student-athletes the best possible experience athletically, academically and socially. I look forward to working with Iain during the next step of his already successful career."
 
Langstone comes back to Slippery Rock after serving as an assistant coach at Division I George Washington University for the last two seasons, where he was intricately involved with all facets of the program.
 
Prior to his time at George Washington, Langstone spent six seasons as an assistant coach at the University of D.C., working with former SRU head coach Matt Thompson at the Division II level. During his time at UDC, his role involved working with all aspects of the program, including match analysis, scouting, preparing and running field sessions, and both local and international recruiting. Langstone was part of multiple successful seasons at UDC, most notably when the Firebirds went on an 11-game unbeaten streak in 2021, and when the program reached the East Coast Conference (ECC) title game for only the second time in program history.
 
In addition to his collegiate coaching, Langstone has also served as the head coach of the MLS Next U16, U17 and U19 club teams for the Alexandria Soccer Association in Virginia since 2022, where he led teams competing at the highest level of the U.S. youth soccer pyramid.
 
A native of Evesham, England, Langstone was on the roster at SRU from 2005-09 and helped The Rock to a pair of PSAC titles, three trips to the NCAA Tournament and two trips to the NCAA Round of 16. He started at forward on the 2009 team that won the PSAC title and recorded the best record in program history at 18-4-1 with his highlight moment of the year coming when he scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over No. 1 Millersville in the PSAC title game. That victory marked the first win over a top ranked team in the country in program history. 
 
Langstone has his U.S. Soccer National B License, is a certified injury prevention specialist and has earned the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma and the USC Performance Analysis Diploma.
 
He will begin his role at SRU this summer with the fall 2026 season set to mark his first on the staff. The Rock will open the season August 27 on the road at D'Youville University.
