LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse defender
Paige Jenkins was named the Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for the fifth time this season when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards Tuesday.
Â
Jenkins, a junior from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, broke the SRU single-season record for caused turnovers after tallying nine caused turnovers over two games last week. She now leads all players in the PSAC with 48 caused turnovers, topping the former SRU single-season record of 46 that was set by Tia Torchia in 2018.
Â
With her efforts last week, Jenkins has extended her all-time SRU career record to 112 caused turnovers after surpassing Torchia (101) earlier this spring.
Â
In addition to the nine caused turnovers last week, Jenkins also picked up 11 ground balls and grabbed four draw controls in a pair of wins over Edinboro and IUP. She was particularly good against IUP, where she caused six turnovers, picked up eight ground balls and grabbed two draw controls.
With two games left in the regular season, Jenkins currently leads all field players in the PSAC in both caused turnovers (48) and ground balls (53). Her efforts have helped SRU to own the No. 1 scoring defense in the country at 4.93 goals per game.Â
Â
Slippery Rock can secure a second PSAC West title with a win in either of its final two regular season games this week. The Rock will travel to No. 22 Seton Hill Wednesday before visiting Lock Haven Saturday.
