No. 7 Rock visits D'Youville Saturday

No. 7 Slippery Rock will travel to D'Youville University in Buffalo, New York for a 1 p.m. non-conference game Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The seventh-ranked Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team will travel to Buffalo, New York Saturday to face D'Youville University in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.

* D'Youville broadcasts its games on FloSports, which requires a paid subscription to view the game. There is no option to purchase a single-game pass. SRU's away games at Lander (March 14) and Newberry (March 18) will also be on FloSports, so fans purchasing a one-month subscription will be able to see those games as well. Those are the only three games on the SRU schedule that will be behind a paywall.

Slippery Rock held steady at No. 7 in the IWLCA rankings and moved up two spots to No. 3 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine rankings this week. D'Youville is unranked.

Slippery Rock is 3-0 and is coming off a 10-6 win over No. 19 Grand Valley State at home last Sunday. D'Youville is 1-1 and is coming off a 14-12 win at home over Davenport last Saturday.

Slippery Rock outscored D'Youville 7-1 in the third quarter to pull away for a 16-7 win at home last year on a brutally cold day where the wind chill was just 12 degrees. The Rock finished the game with advantages of 40-17 in total shots and 20-7 in draw controls. The Saints put up a 15-13 edge in ground balls and got 15 saves from Brinn Stworzydlak in goal. Abby Fink led SRU with five goals and two assists for seven points. Grace Rotter added two goals and two assists and Erin Melcher chipped in one goal and three assists. Lily Ventresca played the first half in goal, allowing three goals and recording three saves and Ava Drath played the second half, allowing four goals with four saves. D'Youville got three goal from Sydney Gordon and one goal and three assists from Madison Buck.

WINS OVER THREE TOURNEY TEAMS
Slippery Rock opened the year with three straight games against defending conference champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers from 2025. The Rock opened the year with an 18-9 win over GMAC champion Ashland, upset PSAC champion and No. 5 West Chester 13-12 on the road to snap the Golden Rams' 60-game regular season win streak and took down GLIAC champion Grand Valley State 10-6 last Sunday at home.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock outscored Grand Valley State 7-1 over the final 22 minutes to erase a two-goal deficit on the way to a 10-6 win last Sunday. The Rock outshot the Lakers 25-19. Reagan Richeson tallied four goals and Caitlyn Kelly chipped in two goals and one assist. Lily Ventresca recorded six saves in goal to earn the win.
 
100 GOALS FOR RICHESON
Junior attacker Reagan Richeson scored four goals last Sunday to bring her career total to 100, making her just the 11th player in SRU program history to record 100 goals in a career. Richeson now has 115 career points to rank 14th in career scoring at SRU.
 
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS
Slippery Rock has four players with at least 10 points through three games, led by All-American attacker Grace Rotter with six goals and six assists for 12 points. Reagan Richeson has a team-high 11 goals. Isabella Buono has seven goals and four assists for 11 points and Maddie Blazey has three goals and seven assists for 10 points.
 
BALANCED SCORING
The Rock also have six more players with multiple points on the year. Freshman Caitlyn Kelly has five goals and two assists and Abby Fink, who scored 50 goals last season, has four goals and one assist. Ava Dossier (2g, 1a), Cadyn Eismann (1g, 2a), Ella Koslowski (1g, 1a) and Sydney Ulmer (1g, 1a) round out the point scorers.
 
DRAW CIRCLE
Shannon Von Kaenel leads the team with 20 draw controls and has helped SRU to post an overall advantage of 45-30 for SRU in the draw circle through three games. Grace Rotter has pulled down 16 draws as those two have combined for 36 of the team's 45 draw controls. Paige Jenkins is third on the team with six draw controls.
 
LET'S TALK DEFENSE
Slippery Rock has racked up 34 caused turnovers in three games and is limiting opponents to 72.9 percent on clear attempts. All-American Paige Jenkins leads the defense with seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Freshmen Aleigha Dubroc and Violet Freebody both have five caused turnovers with Freebody leading all field players with eight ground balls and Dubroc having three ground balls.
 
GOALIE PLAY
All-American goalie Lily Ventresca is 2-0 and has started all three games in goal. Ava Drath has played 20 minutes in relief and is 1-0. Ventresca owns a 9.39 goals against average and a .390 save percentage, while Drath is allowing 5.94 goals against average with a .333 save percentage. The pair have a combined 9.00 goals against average and .386 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
D'Youville is under the direction of first-year head coach McKenna Rushford, who picked up her first win last Saturday with a 14-12 win over Davenport at home. The Saints were 5-9 overall in 2025 and 2-4 in the East Coast Conference.
 
Opponents are outscoring the Saints 26-23 through two games despite D'Youville owning a 56-54 edge in total shots. Madison Handley leads the team in scoring with nine goals while Danielle Gephart has matched her with nine points on four goals and five assists. Sam Newlin has three goals and three assists to round out the top scorers.
 
Lauren Parker leads the team with 20 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Kaylee Farias has played every minute in goal and is 1-1 with a 13.00 goals against average and a .395 save percentage.
