SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The seventh ranked Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team outscored No. 19 Grand Valley State University 7-1 over the final 22 minutes to pull away for a 10-6 victory in a non-conference matchup of nationally ranked teams Sunday from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock improve to 3-0 on the year with all three wins coming against teams that won their respective conference titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. SRU opened the year with a win over reigning GMAC champion Ashland, took down defending PSAC champion West Chester on the road and now defeats reigning GLIAC champion Grand Valley State to stay unbeaten. The Lakers drop to 0-2 after losing a pair of games this weekend in PSAC West territory with a 12-9 loss at No. 21 Seton Hill Friday.

Neither team could build more than a one-goal cushion in a tight first half that saw both defenses and goalies control the game to send it to the break tied at just 3-3.

Grand Valley scored twice in the first half of the third quarter to jump out to a 5-3 lead with 8:59 to play in the third, but Slippery Rock quickly answered with four straight goals in a stretch if less than five minutes to take a 7-5 lead with 1:54 left in the third. The Lakers stopped that run with a tally inside the final minute of the quarter to head to the fourth with SRU leading 7-6.

Slippery Rock's defense shut down Grand Valley in the final period, allowing no goals while the offense added three more insurance tallies to pull away for the 10-6 win.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 25-19 in total shots, 11-7 in draw controls in 12-7 in caused turnovers while scoring on three of eight free position attempts and going 12-of-14 on clear attempts. GVSU put up a 17-16 edge in ground balls, went 0-for-6 on free position attempts and finished 12-of-17 on the clear.

Reagan Richeson entered the day needing four goals to reach 100 for her career and she finished the day right on the number after pacing the attack with four goals. She becomes just the 11th player in program history to record 100 goals at SRU.

Caitlyn Kelly added two goals and one assist,
Isabella Buono scored two goals,
Cadyn Eismann and
Maddie Blazey each handed out two assists and
Grace Rotter scored one goal and added one assist to give SRU six players with multiple points in the game.
Abby Fink netted one goal and
Ella Koslowski handed out one assist to round out the point scorers.

Violet Freebody led the defense with three caused turnovers, while
Paige Jenkins and
Aleigha Dubroc each chipped in two caused turnovers.

Lily Ventresca picked up the win in goal to improve to 2-0 on the year with a strong performance that saw her tally six saves and grab two ground balls.

Grand Valley State was paced by Eilana LaMange with two goals and Gracie Bancroft and Jillian Bingman with a goal and an assist each. Sarah Krause made eight saves in goal.

Slippery Rock will hit the road for its next game with a trip to Buffalo, New York to face D'Youville University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
