SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
Anna Igims won the steeplechase and
Baylee Blauser won the long jump to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track & field team into first place in the team standings after day two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships wrapped up Friday evening from The Rock's William Lennox Track.
Â
Slippery Rock snagged 20 points in the steeplechase on the last event of the day to vault into first place in the team standings with 54 points after seven of the 21 events. East Stroudsburg tallied 18 points in the high jump to move into second place with 42 points. Millersville is third with 37 points and defending champion Shippensburg is fourth with 32 points. California (Pa.) rounds out the top five with 24 points. A total of 13 teams have tallied points in the first seven events.
Â
Blauser kicked off the highlights for Slippery Rock Friday when she won her first career PSAC title in the long jump with a career-best mark of 5.87 meters.
Aleks Brozeski took seventh at 5.54 meters to give SRU 12 points in the long jump.
Â
Igims then closed out the day with a commanding win in the steeplechase for her third career PSAC title in the event. She cruised to a win in 10:36.70 for the third SRU win over the first seven events and the second distance win after
Ruthie Hughes won the 10K Thursday night. SRU put four in the top eight in the steeplechase with
Hannah Burgoon also picking up an All-PSAC honor in third place in 11:20.80.
Maddie Grillo took sixth in 11:37.88 and
Morgan Dennison was eighth in 11:40.56.
Â
The Rock also grabbed two more All-PSAC efforts in the field events Friday with a pair of third place showings.
Paige Griffith took third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.66 meters and
Sydney Hale took third in the discus with a season-best throw of 41.37 meters, advancing out of the first flight and surprising the field to earn her first career All-PSAC honor.
Â
The other events contested Friday included the preliminary rounds for the track events at 800 meters and down and Slippery Rock shined in those prelims with one school record and multiple qualifiers advancing to Saturday finals.
Â
Samantha Gilbert led the individual efforts after she broke her own SRU record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.51 seconds, the No. 2 qualifying time Friday. That topped her former record of 24.60 seconds set earlier this spring. Gilbert also posted the No. 2 qualifying time in the 100-meter dash (11.73 seconds) and ran the lead leg of the No. 1 qualifying 4x100-meter relay, where she teamed with
